Once again I have proof that I am no techie. I was trying to get a little more speed from my old Acer Aspire laptop. After I took the 22 screws out and got the back off, I took out the old mechanical hard drive and put in the new SSD. I put the 22 screws back in. I still have my old Windows 7 Pro operating system. I fired up the laptop and started the install. Everything looked good but then I got a message that the SSD had no drivers. Out came the 22 screws again after I read that the drive had to be initialized. Windows 10 has a disk management option. Try as I might, I could not get the SSD to work. I was using my Windows 10 desktop to initialize the SSD. Following the instructions to the letter, (I thought), I could not see the initialize option. I got to the point that it appeared that I had made progress. Then I get the message that the drive was not formatted. The format option is greyed out and would not work. At that point, I decided to take everything to the local computer shop. I was still reading information from my Internet searching. One poster said that the Windows 10 disk management is too finicky to work with. He recommended that I use the free EaseUS partition program. I got back to work. Sure enough I was able to partition and format the SSD. I had learned a little. I didn't put all the screws back in before I tested the set up. Windows 7 got past the point where I got the format message and Windows 7 installed properly. It's a good thing I now have fiber Internet because there was about 2 GB of updates. It appears that everything is working properly. The laptop is a little faster but I really don't think that it was worth all the effort.

That is a very expensive upgrade for an old laptop... I checked the prices on Lazada.

How many GB did you get Gary?

I assume that you used an eSATA interface? So you should see speeds of up to 6 Gbit/s (750 MB/s)?

I too was thinking of upgrading my PC with an SSD but my motherboard's architecture is too old and the theoretical speed of an SSD would not be achievable.

Interesting that you went with the pro rather than the much more inexpensive EVO. You might be limited by the SATA3 connection on your laptop also.

When you start multi-tasking is when the SSD makes its benefit known.

I bought the 128 GB drive. That's plenty of storage for my laptop. I have 4 GB of RAM. I bought it from Lazada for 3,650 baht.
