BANGKOK, 5 July 2017 (NNT) - Rice Department Director-General Anan Suwanrat said prices of rice would rise as many rice producing nations are suffering from natural disasters while global demand for rice continues to grow.

In response to the rice farmers’ call for the government's help, Anan said the government introduced many assistance measures last year in the areas of production, marketing and finance to help rice farmers reduce production costs and increase their productivity.

The measures consisted of a large scale-farming project, low-interest loan programs, and other measures aimed at encouraging rice farmers to turn to cattle farming which yields higher returns.

In addition, the government has been allowing rice farmers to postpone their debt payments through a special program.

The Director-General said the government would continue to implement these measures to ensure that rice farmers have higher incomes and live a better life.

Thank you Anan for introducing so many ''recycled" populist measures
