Overstay; Going for ED Visa

Recommended Posts

If you were to sick to travel you could of gotten a letter from a doctor and/or a hospital stating that and obtained an extension of stay for medical treatment instead of overstaying.

Since you are flying out just pay the overstay fine on departure from the country.

You may have a problem entering Laos by air with an overstay stamp in your passport. You should check with the airline.

This is a good point. There have been reports before about refused check in for those on overstay. Although leaving by air is the usual recommendation, it might actually be better in this case to fly to Udon Thani and cross at Nong Khai. Apparently, unlike most land borders, Nong Khai does appear to process those with long overstays.

Getting the Non Ed visa, if you have the correct paperwork, should be no problem. However, depending on how long you have been in Thailand already, immigration on entry might also give you grief. Good luck!

Be sure to have 20K Baht worth of cash or travelers checks on your person when returning - especially if coming into a Thai airport, plus proof of where you will be staying in Thailand.

You might also need a good explanation on how you support yourself here in Thailand.  I'd bring proof (bank / brokerage statements, etc) if you have it.  Probably won't need it, but definitely a "nice to have."
