Mmm... but what is the cause of the excessive amounts of nutrients?

I live in Patong but haven't swim in this beach for over 2 years as I know that the beach is full of waste coming from the hotels (I and everyone who live here knows it very well)

The beach is 4 minutes walk from my home but I won't swim in raw sewage and therefore have to go to Kata/Nai Harn to enjoy a day on the beach.

It's a shame as I was told by long time residents that Patong Beach was the most beautiful beach in Phuket 20 years ago.

Honestly, I am surprised that anyone goes to swim in Patong beach after seeing the color of the water, If the tourists only knew that they were swimming in RAW SHIT, they wouldn't go in at all, leaving this beach empty and maybe, just maybe we would see a change in the government policy!

I am always amazed on why with all the taxes and money coming from Patong tourism , can't they put SOME of the money (just some of it...) in proper treatment facility and punish those hotels who pollute this beach.

I know it CAN  be done as I've never seen a beach in any western country that was polluted by "plankton blooms" so often...

Who knows, maybe by fully boycotting Patong beach for a year or two we can save it.

Need somebody to pull the flush out there!!....:post-4641-1156693976:

Guess you may have to stick to the pool in the condo complex or in the villa!! ...what a pity nevertheless!!

I was talking to a friend that has been coming here for almost 20 years and during his stay, he went to Hawaii for 2 weeks and compared the water off Waikiki with all the big 30+ storey highrises with local kata  beach water and said there was no comparison.  Water was crystal clear and there were no "plankton blooms" to be seen even though the amount of people at Waikiki is far greater.  So if the Kata beach water was a lot worse, I can only imagine the cess pool known as Patong.

Authorities here are allowing the slow death of the very things that made Phuket popular and famous - its beaches.

Once the beaches here are trashed, what's Phuket got to offer, past overprices food and beverage, and the sex trade?
