DIT doesn't see LPG float affecting prices

BANGKOK, 10th July 2017 (NNT) – The Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has assured the market that the floating of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices will not impact the price of goods and that the office will stop private entities from taking advantage of the situation.

DIT Director-General Nanthawan Sakuntanak says she may order monitoring of fruit and vegetable prices at this time as supplies to the market are high due to recent good weather. It is anticipated however, that heavy rains in some areas will affect produce such as spring onions and shallots but their market price is not expected to fluctuate by much.

Commodity goods prices on the whole are stable on low fuel costs and high competition. Values are expected to remain as they are until the end of the year.

On the floating of LPG prices from August onwards, the Ministry of Energy has prepared assistance measures for low-income earners and small stores in the form of discounts. However, energy prices overall are expected to be steady over the next 2-3 years and the price of LPG is not seen as having much impact on food costs.

The Ministry of Commerce has reminded those who may be affected by changes to the cost of living that its Noo Nich Pa Chim project continues to offer ready-made meals at 35-40 baht a plate. It is also keeping an eye on retail prices and has asked that any unfair practices be reported on 1569.
