I have a mate who would like to stay for another month or so but not sure of his visa options, his history is.

Last year got a 6month tourist visa from UK came over used it up extended it for 1 month at immigration and left in November.

Came over on a visa exempt 30 day at BKK, extended it at immigration for 30 days which is due to end 30th July.

Like I said would like to stay for a month or 2 longer, can you get a 60 day tourist visa in Thailand without leaving, is Savannah etc an option for a 60 day tourist visa?

Any other option?

He could leave and re-enter to get another visa exempt entry that could be extended for 30 days.

It is not possible get a tourist visa without leaving the country.

He could get a single entry tourist visa in Savannakhet. They are asking for tickets out of the country and financial proof now.

Vientiane is not asking for anything other than a visa application form and passport.

He could do a border run and get a 30 day entry.

The 15 day rule was rescinded in January of this year when the rule limiting visa exempt entries to 2 per calendar year at land border crossings went into effect.

Wow, didn't realise they implemented that rule, so now the tourists that impulsively decide to take a holiday in Thailand can only do so twice a year!!

Not if they fly in - it's just for land-borders.  And those who are citizens of nearby countries are not affected by this rule.
