Document Translation for Visa

Featured Replies

USA citizen- Do both the income affidavit and the marriage affidavit have to be translated into Thai? Does anyone know of a translation agency close to the US consulate in Chiangmai? Thank you for any help.

Not sure what you are trying to do.

Where are you applying for the visa.

If a document is in English it does not have to be translated to apply for Thai visas at an embassy or consulate.

The affirmation must be translated and MFA-stamped for the Amphoe, to get married.  A copy will also be needed to do a 'conversion' to a Non-O (unless your office does not require this, though it is on the 'official' list from Bangkok).  This document is not needed for an annual extension-of-stay from immigration, if you start with a Non-O Visa based on marriage issued by a Thai-Consulate outside of Thailand.

The income -doc does not have to be translated, though you may need to get an MFA stamp verifying the signature of your Embassy consular official - depending on the policies of the Chang Mai immigration office.

Check with the amphoe to find out exactly what they require for you to get married - they each make up their own rules.  Then repeat that process with Immigration, who will want more/different things for each type of service - 60-day extensions, 1-year extensions, and conversions to Non-O from Tourist (assuming you don't have a Non-Imm type visa, now).

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I do not live in Chiangmai(going to the US consulate), but in a Northern province, so it'd be for the local immigration office.I'm not sure if they require the MFA stamp. I just wanted to know if they both needed to be translated(income verification letter as I know the marriage one has to be).

The income affidavit does not need to be certified (only 3 or4 immigration offices near Bangkok require it).

I you are already married you will not need the marriage affidavit at immigration.

What are you going to do at an immigration office.

Because of my timeline, I'm going to try apply for an extension based on retirement (so I needed to know if the income document had to be translated). If not, I can go the marriage route, but I'd rather not rush it- (6 years together).

No need for the income affidavit to be translated since it is in English.
