has anybody got any experience with time limit switch similar to the one the hotels use the if you don't plug in a card the air con shuts off ?

is there paticular way that they have to be wired up  ?

my local somchai  has told me that each room will need its own fuse box if i want to hook these things up.

Your man is effectively correct.

I found a couple of units on aliExpress with enough oomph to control an aircon.

But if you want to control lights and outlets as well as the A/C you'll still need a small breaker box in each room.

Have a look here;-

EDIT. Do you already have electronic room keys? If you do, get the right type of switch and the room key works the lights. Otherwise guests will just leave the card in the slot when they go out.

i only want one for aircon and the card will be permanently attached to room key.

if the lock keys in the room and leave aircon on, they receive a free punch in the head !

If you use one of the RFID card switches be careful if you intend making holes in the card, there's a bunch of delicate electronics in there.

These simple switches are not linked to a particular card so any ISO 14443 card will trigger the switch. Think Rabbit, PayWave and the like.

Magnet Card electric Switch

555.

I used to hang my magnetic motorcycle tank bag over the switch and go out for the evening :whistling:

If you only want to control the A/C that unit you link to will be just fine, no need for a separate box, just wire it like any other switch.

As also noted, the magnetic units are not exactly difficult to defeat.

If it becomes a problem you'll need to think about other solutions such as time limits, push the button for 2 hours of air, not there to push, no air. Perhaps with a time clock so it runs all night. Easy to arrange, but of course will cost.

just returned from Vietnam...at one new hotel out in the provinces the card slot for the electrics would only use the key card, inserting a piece of cardboard wouldn't work...back in Hanoi in an older hotel the cardboard worked fine...

folks are fussy about power consumption out in the VN provinces...7 years ago at a 'basic' hotel I left the AC running when I went to work and when I checked out they charged twice the room rate for that day to cover their additional power cost...tutsi: 'but you never cleaned the room or gave me a towel???'

they were impassive...
