Annual road test off road truck

Featured Replies

I took my pick up for the annual road test/ tax renewal and was told they could not do it (my day) because I had a 7 inch lift and the spot lights had to be removed. I have had the truck 8 years now and this is the first time I have been told this. Has any one any information as to this new requirement and what I need to do?

Thanks

Sounds a bit odd. I wonder if the blue book must have the suspention stuff mentioned in it..Was that at a gov test station or a private one...?

It was at "My Day", I think that what it is called. So a gov approved private testing station.

Then take it to another...

My son in law told me the government are getting very strict with people who modify vehicles

Passenger vans/ minibuses with none genuine wheels cannot be re licensed until the original wheels supplied with vehicle are fitted back onto it, the vehicle must be as supplied by the manufacturer, lowered vehicles must be returned to normal height, generally speaking it seems all after market modifications must be removed or they will not relicense the vehicle

Film over stop/tail lights and wide wheels are 2 other illegal modifications

OMG

Sounds like a big problem.

There are many modified off road trucks in Thailand. To unmodify will cost a lot and really piss off a lot of off roaders.

I hope there is a way round it. I am going to try another test center that may not know about it. Will at least give me another year.

I took the truck to another testing place and same story. I think what they tell me is I have to take the truck to DOT for an inspection and also maybe the spot lights have to come off. Nit sure what the inspection involves, rubber stamp deal or maybe they not approve the lift abd it has to come off

Hmmmm, sounds not good..Take the spots off and take a Thai speaker with you to DOT and talk your test woes and hope for the best..

I was advised that the center of the headlights can be no more than 1.35m high, so if the lift brings the lights higher than that then I guess it would have to be lowered. I was also advised to remove the led light bar mounted on the roof, this I did. Now when I got to DOT the first thing the "inspector" said was, the spot lights mounted on the front bumper, at same hight as the head lights have to come off. Shit! However another man of higher rank I guess took over and talking to my wife said leave it to him, not to worry about the head lights just bring him my work permit, passport etc next week, no need to bring the truck, and he would take care of it. No dobt there will be an extra fee for this inspection. Will see what hapends next week. If every off road truck in Thailand has to remove the spot lights, and there are many of them and they all have extra lights fitted there will be a kot of unhappy people. Not to mention the offroad shops selling the lights

What inspection? "No need to bring the truck" Yes, sounds like a bung job. Good luck.

Got to agree with the LED lightbar on the roof though. We aren't going out 'roo shooting are we? I mounted mine below the number plate... but angled ever so slightly upwards so that those that refuse to dip their headlights get a rapid but brief reminder about using their dipswitch.

He had allready "looked" at the truck no no need to bring it again, just docs and fee. The light bar on the roof was to high light low branches over the road/dirt track not to blind others, though not a bad idea. Make sure you remove yours before you bring it for inspection.
