Is it possible to apply for Non immigrant O after entering Thailand?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to apply for a Non-O 1year visa based on marriage after entering Thailand on 30days exempt visa without having to leave the country? My problem is that I am working at a remote area where mailing is very unreliable and no Thai embassy. So I would rather enter the kingdom and then apply for a 1 year Non-O if possible.

You cannot apply for a one year multiple entry non-o visa at immigration. They can only be applied for at a embassy or consulate.

You can apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at an immigration office. You would have to have 15 day days remaining on your entry or the 30 day extension of it to apply. Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa you could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai.

You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income.

As said the only visa available inside Thailand would be issued on basis of making a one year extension of stay and even then Bangkok is one of the few places it is available and you would need to be in Thailand to extend and then again 30 days later so probably not a real option.

Perhaps a visit to nearby country on an overnight trip to obtain the multi entry non immigrant O visa would be a better option - just be sure of what paperwork is required for the Consulate you plan to use.

Thai bank account in your name only and if 400k baht option, has to be in there for at least 2 months on the day of application. Is that correct ubonjoe?

In your name only. It only needs to be in the bank for 2 months to apply for the extension.

Conversions to a 90-Day Non-O used to be only available in Bangkok and a few other offices, but now Bangkok will only issue them for people living in their area of coverage, and are requiring other offices to do them for people living in their coverage-areas.

Because some offices are not happy about doing these conversions, some of them are making it extra-difficult to comply with paperwork-demands - which can make going out to a Consulate for the initial Non-O a preferable option.  Best to try at your local office first, and see if they are being nice about it.

The 1-year extension is possible after the Conversion to a Non-O, or after obtaining a Non-O from a consulate.

Jomtien (Pattaya) being a particular case in point.

You would not be able to change from an extension to a visa.

You could change the reason for your extension to one based upon marriage at immigration.
