A worker for the Cambodian Mine Action Centre and two other men accused of cross-border weapons smuggling from Cambodia to Thailand were yesterday questioned in Banteay Meanchey provincial court. Provincial deputy police chief Brigadier General Seth Los said Chim Lin, 36, Yim Savy, 38, and Op Virak, 48, spent the day being questioned and were due to appear again today.

They were arrested in Battambang province’s Sampov Loun district on Friday. Mr Virak works for CMAC and is accused of collecting unexploded ordnances and refurbishing them to sell to weapons smugglers since 2008.

Defence Ministry spokesman Chhum Socheat said military weapons stockpiles had been checked and nothing was missing. “So we don’t really know where the suspects took the weapons from,” Gen Socheat said.
