New passport on 30 days extension

Featured Replies

I just got my 30 days extension in Bangkok. And as an idiot that I am, I didn't stop by my embassy to pick up my new passport, which is literally on the way to the immigration office.

The reason I have gotten a new passport issued. Is that I have only 1 page left. Page 31 is still empty, the passport has 33 pages in total.

So I read a few recent TV posts about this. It's my understanding that you cannot just show up at the airport with a new passport and the letter from your embassy if you are on a 30 days extension. That you would have to have the stamp transferred at the immigration office where you got your extension. Which in my case is Bangkok.

Is this rule still in effect? Also, since my passport is here in Bangkok. I would have to leave, get my exit stamp, enter third country with visa on arrival (e.g Singapore, Malaysia), get an entry stamp, leave third country, get an exit stamp, arrive back to Thailand, get an arrival stamp. So that would be 4 stamps in total on one page.

Is that cutting it really short for the rules in Thailand, third country and the airline?

You can get the stamps transferred after a 30 day extension on departure from the country.

Only long stay extensions have to be done at the office that issued the extension.

There is no such rule. Show both passports on exit. They will do the necessary and stamp you out of the country using the new passport.

Great, thanks. Just to clarify. I'm on a tourist visa. 60 days and now a 30 days extension of that.

Not a problem at an airport.
