Honolulu targets 'smartphone zombies' with crosswalk ban

(Reuters) - A ban on pedestrians looking at mobile phones or texting while crossing the street will take effect in Hawaii's largest city in late October, as Honolulu becomes the first major U.S. city to pass legislation aimed at reducing injuries and deaths from "distracted walking."

ELDORET, Kenya (Reuters) - Unidentified gunmen attacked Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto's residence on Saturday while he and his family were out, local television stations reported, 10 days before presidential and legislative elections.

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - A suicide bomber killed 14 people in northeast Nigeria, the state emergency agency said on Saturday, in an attack that bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram, days after a resurgence in the jihadist group's activities prompted a shift in military tactics.

Hamburg attacker was known to security forces

HAMBURG (Reuters) - The migrant who killed one person and injured six others in a knife attack in a Hamburg supermarket was a radicalised Islamist known to German security agencies, but also believed to have psychological problems.

Apple is removing VPN services from China App Store – providers

BEIJING (Reuters) – Apple Inc is removing virtual private network (VPN) services from its app store in China, VPN service providers said on Saturday, accusing the U.S. tech giant of bowing to pressure from Beijing to comply with stringent cyberspace regulations.
