BANGKOK: -- The NBTC chief has been forced to make a backtrack after blaming Facebook for not being fast enough in pulling the plug on sites deemed to have illegal content in Thailand.

Thakorn Tanthasit, head of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, pointed his finger at Facebook last week after suggesting that the social media giant had only shut down 40% of sites mentioned in court orders last May.

But it has now emerged that both Facebook and YouTube have shut all the sites that they were requested to act on.

Good to know. I have not slept for months. Now, when will the govt. work hard towards corruption and slaves on boats?

Sounds like Thakorn was just looking to get himself in the spotlight. Like many of the clowns in power here, spouting nonsense just to get their 15 minutes of fame.

Anyone know the site urls?

IPTV sites included?

Surely they wouldn't block VPN sites?

How sad. Face Book and Google have actually appeased Thailand, ranked 142 world press freedom index.

Until Google and Facebook issues a statement to collaborate, I'll take NBTC's statement with a load of salt.

Same old military government problem. Opening the big mouth before the small brain is engaged.

when have we passed the point of not believing Anything the govt tells us

If Facebook and YouTube are having difficulties pulling URL's in a timely manner, it might have something to do with the extraordinary amount of sites the truth concealing Junta want blocked. You have to be a very bad and insecure Government to be blocking so much of what your citizens have to say.

I'm with you on this one.  I don't believe it happened.
