Yes and most of them were "elect me" scams that cost the nation dearly. The rice scam, the fabulous educational leap forward of the tablet scam, cheap cars, cheap homes and pay rises for everyone. But all with one aim, elect us so we can rob you again.

Ponzi schemes only last so long, so if your claims are true then the scamming governments days would be numbered as they would eventually have to face the wrath of the cheated voters.

That's how democracy works.

I would not go as far as to compare Thaksin with those lot.. but ok if you say so.

If I pick democracy that means no Shins, because having a convicted criminal leading a party from abroad and paying the MP's a salary is not something a democracy is. So there are actually no choices.

....don't forget the array of "civilian" PMs throughout recent times that were shown to be crooked and corrupt - and conveniently backed by the usual military crowd.

Yet, the only examples that most can/will use are the Shinawatras and their reigns.

Oh, your one of those guys who think unless everything is perfect then there can be no democracy.

Without elections there is no democracy.

With elections there is democracy, it may be flawed democracy, but it is still better than tyranny.

Junta or democracy - looks like you've made your choice.

Right, eventually, but at what cost? How about B2.2 trillion to continue the losses. Is it any wonder that those who didn't fall for the scams, and some who did, were outraged?

Tell me, how many years should my children have to pay for the electoral bribes to keep up a farce of democracy?

Are your kids better off paying for submarines?

Look at the results of Thaksin's government from 2001 until the 2006 coup - they were outstanding.

Love him or hate him, the results were outstanding.

I for one prefer a mildly corrupt government that achieves outstanding results to an outrageously corrupt government that has achieved nothing of note other than to run the national treasury down from 495 billion to just 70 billion.

Yes I think that all the other conditions of a democracy to need to be adhered to before I would call something a democracy.

It seems you made your choice.. Shins no matter how corrupt and how anti democratic they are. Pretending that it will become a Democracy even though we seen how Thaksin removed all checks and balances and consolidated his power.

Now did they Shins not have MP's vote for MP's that were not there... caught on tape.. still lying about it.

Did the Shins not send away the opposition telling them the voting would be an other day and then have a secret vote

Did the Shins not secretly add Thaksin to the list of an amnesty..

Paying MP's salaries from Dubai

Running the Party as real leader by skype even though he is a convicted criminal.

Seems awfully democratic.

Yes the junta is bad but the Shins are not a viable alternative.

Yes Thaksin was so brilliant, he lifted the economy of the whole world. And when my children walk down the wharf they can say 'We own that!" which is much better than "Where did B500 billion go?"

Only a true sycophant could describe any Thaksinist government as "mildly corrupt". Which puts you right onto the ignore list, see you on your next user name.

How do you get all the other things if the people have no say in anything.

What is the starting point if not elections?

Democrats would be just fine by me, the only condition is that they are elected first.

Thaksin never removed the most important check did he? There was always elections under both him and his sister.

When the mobs hit the streets, they both dissolved parliament and called elections - can't ask for more than that.

They may very well ave done everything you state here... but it's up to the voters to decide whether to vote him out or not.

Ronald Reagan had the CIA sell crack to inner city communities to fund weapons purchases for the Sandinistas.

Nobody promised purity and to expect purity is naivety to the extreme.

I see you're still struggling with the Junta or Democracy dilemma.

For me it's easy - any elected government is better.

I certainly don't oppose your right to disagree, I just think you're wrong.

Now you wouldn't be refusing to stand up for my right to believe you're wrong would you?

That would be disappointing.

I can't imagine how you ever got that (false) impression ? :glare:

May I add that, with 91-posts in just your first 12-hours, I admire your stamina if not your political-views.

Now lets get back to the topic of this thread, whether or not former-PM Yingluck has any influence in choosing the next leader of her party, or whether she is almost irrelevant these days, as the OP says ? :whistling:
