PATTAYA: -- A video on news site Komchadluek showed what happened when fourteen illegal Chinese workers were arrested in Pattaya.

The tourist police led by local chief Piyapong Ensarn went in shouting "Stop! Stop!" as the confused Chinese who seemed unable to speak Thai or English were bombarded with questions about where they were from.

The cops seemed to know they were all Chinese and illegal at that.

They were working on the construction of a restaurant near the Paniat Chang intersection on Pattaya Sai 3 during yesterday's raid.

A man called Long Ling, 41, was in charge and was taken in for questioning ahead of deportation.

He told police that he had hired the workers since January for 300 yuan or 1,500 baht a day, said Komchadluek.

I though Prayuth had rescinded the illegal worker law till January.  Why would you pay Chinese 1,500 when you can have Thai for 400.......oh.

Shouted Stop Stop but they didnt speak Thai or English .! Needs one of those Thai Chinese translators on his phone .. Shout you're request in Thai and it shouts the trans' back in China speak .. The British old bill use 'em all the time when they nick foreigners .. And the cops seem to know they were Chinese and illegal at that .! Supergrass in the works somewhere .. :passifier:

1500 per day? Unless they work 22 hours per day, it does not make any sense.

They are semi - skilled

Maybe the Chinese actually do some work.

The 1500 a day is for all 14.

It shouldn't matter where they are from or how much you pay them, they are not Thai so regarded as foreign workers.  So with the law for employing foreigners being 4 Thai per 1 foreigner, the question I have is how come all construction is done by the Burmese with only 1 or 2 Thai (normally supervisors) in site?  These companies are operating illegally yes?  Don't see anything being done about that.  As with anything here, it's selective on who can do what.

Perhaps the Chinese work 1 hour a day instead of 30 minutes.

I would think it was meant that it was 1500 baht a day for the whole lot of them.

Maybe the foreman was paid THB 1,500 per day for running the HR Department?

1500 baht must be wrong , maybe 1 week salary.
