DSI acts on complaints of fake bird's nest being sold to tourists

CHONBURI, 10 August 2017 (NNT) – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has launched an inspection of eateries in Pattaya following complaints of fake bird’s nest being sold to tourists.

DSI agents have joined agents of the Department of Local Administration, tourist police and local public health officials in Pattaya to inspect 9 restaurants.

Deputy Director of the DSI Pol Lt Col Prawut Wongsinil indicated his agency received complaints from the former president of the Birds Nest Business Association of fake bird’s nest being sold in Pattaya.

The phony food is made from wood gum and rubber from India and while not posing any harm if consumed does not provide the nutritional benefits promised by bird’s nest. It was noted that the damage to the image of Thailand could cost its bird’s nest industry 4 billion baht a year.

Sets of the bogus food were said to be sold for up to 3,000 baht, netting sellers a 2,600 baht profit.

The DSI has detained several restaurateurs for selling fake food. They face 6 months to 10 years in prison and a fine between 5,000 and 100,000 baht.

decades ago they warned me that if I took LSD I would have "flashbacks".

That must be what is finally happening now.

All those scams should get addressed harsh or the Thai reputation will get damaged more and more. It will take decades to get rid of a bad reputation...

How many people here pay for lobster and get rock lobster?

A 1000 years would not be enough for Thailand.

I've got loads they can have in my garden.  The damn birds wake me at unearthly hours each morning.

Adopt 100 stray cats to chase the birds
and 100 stray dogs to chase the cats
and then 100 "illegal labourers" to eat the whole lot !

From David Badeal on television after tasting very expensive very rare foods, food value should be based on how good it tastes not how rare it is, so, in that case fish and chips should cost 200$ a portion and caviar 1.50$ a portion.

Same goes for birds nest soup although I reckon 50 cents would be about right.

I think it quite amusing that the Chinese have been conned in buying pigeons nests as a delicacy at 3000 baht a pop .Wonderful !

Hey Prayuth, here is your solution for the rubber farmers.

Make it from Thai rubber, and with those 30 Million Chinese visiting the rubber stock will be gone in a whim.

Then the chicks crap in it and it attracts insects and bugs then along comes a human who has been told its good for him and eats the lot. Propaganda if fed enough times can get some to do anything, like kill elephants and tigers for heath giving items that simply do not contain anything to help you live better and longer. Some people are Whats the word?

I'm pretty sure the steak I ordered last time in Pattaya was actually a used shoe sole.
