Rocket haul unearthed in Siem Reap market

Construction crews building a container market in Siem Reap province have discovered nearly 40 105mm rockets while excavating land in Svay Dangkum commune. Tith Narong, the provincial police chief, said the rockets were found while crews were excavating land on Friday and Saturday for the Siem Rep city container market.

 

Mr Narong said the rockets, buried since the Lon Nol regime, were collected by police and handed over to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre. “They are very old and they are very rusted,” Mr Narong said. “We provided them to CMAC officials so they can destroy them properly.”

 

Heng Ratana, the director general of CMAC, said his officials were handling the case, which was not the first in the area. “We found unexploded ordinance in that area two times already,”  Mr Ratana said.
