PHUKET: -- Lifeguards have called for parents keep a close eye on children swimming at Phuket beaches over the Mother’s Day long weekend after a 7-year-old boy was rescued from a lagoon at the southern end of Nai Harn Beach yesterday (Aug 13).

Lifeguards stationed near the lagoon were called to help the boy at about 4pm.

The boy was unconscious and unresponsive when he was pulled from the water, prompting lifeguards to perform CPR until the boy’s pulse returned and he began breathing unassisted, though still unconscious.

Many people take their kids to the lagoon, thinking it is safe there. The current there can be quite strong and treacherous though, I prefer the sea where you can see what is happening and coming at you.

He came with his family. Where the hell were they?

Never let children near any water until they can prove they are proficient swimmers and can tread water for at least 20 minutes.

Once they have achieved that they can venture to the sea with parental supervision. NEVER turn your back to the sea. It takes years of experience to be a proficient swimmer in the sea and or surf.

Don’t take chances with your children….Please

Quite right. That area is not safe as there have been some drownings there.

Great work by the lifeguards. Parents need a decent dressing down.
