MADRID: -- The Thai embassy in Madrid issued a warning for Thais to avoid La Rambla street and other crowded areas in the heart of Barcelona following an attack that killed 13 people and injured more than 50 others on Thursday.

U.S., Japan step up defence cooperation to counter North Korea

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and Japan will step up their defence cooperation to deal with the threat from nuclear-armed North Korea as tensions in East Asia remain high, officials from the two allies said on Thursday.

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee was defaced at North Carolina's Duke University and there were more arrests on Thursday over the toppling of a similar statue as communities in the U.S. South faced a contentious debate over such divisive monuments.
