You then need to show that you have income to provide that support, Payslips from you and your husband...So long as she has a sponsor it doesnt matter if she is unemployed or not.

canadian sponsor here & not australian, so i realise there will be differences.

but my gf got turned down for a tourist visa when we first applied. the CW said first because the gf didn't have a job which is ok with me because i give her more money per month than she could earn on her own.

i had provided my financial info as sponsor that her trip was totally fundable by me. but then the CW stated that because i had been living in LOS for the past 18 months with no job back home & no residence that i was not the ideal sponsor.

so now i am back home in canada working & i have a residence all because the thai CW at the canadian embassy thinks that i need to be working to prove that i am an "ideal" sponsor with a residence.

the gf is working at a lamer job in bkk that can hopefully (not sure yet tho) write a letter that her job is waiting for her when she returns.

this time we will also just ask for a 1 month visa rather than the 6 month visa asked for the first go round.

i know that i didn't take the whole visa process as seriously as i should have as i didn't discover this site until i got back home. now i am accumulating the info that might help us on our second attempt... photos of us with date stamps (if that holds water but hopefully shows initiative), emails from 2 years ago when we first met (###### glad i archive my emails, but again not sure how much water these hold) as well as emails now that i am back home. i will be able to provide bills with my address & name on them to prove residency. again i will provide my financial info (or enough to prove that the trip can/will be supported). i also left the gf with a small packet of money before i left that i will top up again before we re-apply so she can also show fundage of her own. oh yeah gonna do up a whole cover letter thing to state the intention of the visit what we plan to do (itinerary type thing) as well as possible return flights to book for her upon receiving visa.

after all this if she is denied again i guess i will communicate with my local MP & copy the canadian thai embassy official to ask why such an application has been denied. i think i should have done this the first time round but i know better to do it next time anyhow.

so what a crazy process for sure! i mean if we are successful with the next visa application hopefully further visa attempts will go more easily. the gf can quit her lamer job, perhaps immigration won't require me to have a job (something i didn't really want to do but because they said i was like an inappropriate sponser i decided to get) & i can quit.

oh well, i can only hope our next try is more successful but i now doubt the whole process & i guess only time will tell. but we are more armed & ready for the next try thanx to reading posts on this site!

my points were.

it is racist - because it selectively applies to people of certain races only.

there is a racist attitude within DIMIA as a whole.

it is "unfair" because it applies to certain countries and not others.

it is "unfair" because it is not a matter of meeting clear requirements,

in the end the "likely / unlikely to return" is a totally subjective call by an imm officer,

and we see here, many full and complete applications are refused on this arbitrary basis.

how can anyone possibly satisfactoraly prove that "she/he is going to return?"

i dont want to hear about its our country and we can decide who comes here.

any country can do anything, it doesn't make it right.

lets invade Iraq because we can.

lets keep out asians because we can.

and quite frankly many asian people i know might like to visit australia but the last thing they want is to live there, they actually prefer their own country with its long history of culture and family ties.

Sounds like you are better prepared this time....It sounds like they are looking for ongoing income rather than savings for the sponsors and a settled lifestyle for sponsor requirements. Also give them copies of receipts for any money you have sent her.

Good luck next time....

I can agree with most of the advice give by Mr Burns.

However there is a time and place for the poli's to intervene. Where a procedual matter has been broken then the poli's are a good point of contact. If you are going to jump in when you haven't completed the forms properly it may make you look silly, and the DIMA Bangkok look bright.

As some may know I approached the poli's after my application had sat for 5 months waiting for our son to be born, and had it approved in 3-4 days after this intervention. The basis of my approach was the lack of respect for the basic procedual matters in dealing with the application. I listed 7 issues that were not given adequate consideration by the Department.

From this I also got a number of names at the Embassy and posted them on the forum. Don't know if these people are still there?

Reading the original post it does appear that the application had some flaws; there are quite a few applications I am sure that become ingenous in trying to get women to Australia to work in the sex industry.

I just got this feeling when we did our application, don't know why, but usually I have a good response to this inturitive thought.

I thought Graham gave a good response.

I also agree with Bronco Mr Patterson cannot help with applications.

Immigration services can cost an arm and a leg, and I don't know if they are more effective as just reading the information from the Department. I always found the Sydney staff at DIMA very helpfull. DIMA Bangkok suggested that I go thru a Immigration service because they did not want to answer any questions before we submitted the application and paid the money, then suggested I go the the application centre. They never eluded to the fact that you could lodge a residency visa at the Embassy.

I am back in Australia working in the community housing industry. Honestly, if I acted as the DIMA office did thru our experience, I would have a list of complaints and probably out of a job.

On a scale of 1-10 and again my own eperience, is DIMA is similar to John L Motors. This was a car company of the 60's and 70's that lived outside the rules of what is the Dept of Fair Trading in NSW.

I would also like to know how DIMA gauages itself in service delivery. Maybe iy is just a numbers game and that is all they are worried about. Hard to have a heart when this is your primary focus.

Only way to get tourist visa is if she can show a good job that put the money in the bank and show that she save the money herself.

Not true....If she is sponsored then her employment and savings are not an issue. My fiance has had 2 visas issued and both times we stated she was unemployed and she had no savings in the bank. I supplied supporting documents as I mentioned before and she got her visas with no trouble. other friends have done the same.

LIE, your information could be a little dated....the rules and guidelines change all the time.

We appied for tourist visa's about 1.5 - 2 years ago now...deadset i gave them everything, i even offered to lodge a bond with them but to no avail.

They just kept sending her a form letter saying she was at risk of over staying. Geez I kicked up a stink both here and in Bkk.

Anyway she is her in Oz with me now and all is well

that was about the time my fiance first applied.

It would seem to me to be that either her application was weak in another area or if you bulked up her account to show savings that the Embassy staff looked upon this as being not quite honest.

However alls well that ends well and she is here now.
