As security is tightening with police and military checking public buses on highways, trains, to monitor people coming to the capital this week to give morale support to the ex-premier Yingluck Shinawatra on the August  25 judgement day, she posted on her Facebook page with a short message saying she made merit at home today in Bangkok.

Ms Yingluck said “this morning, I have made merit at home and have  brought merits for everyone”.

Her post drew lots of viewers giving her morale support and sympathy.

I think there us a misquote in the article.

"Ms Yingluck said “this morning, I have made merit at home and have  brought merits for everyone”."

Should read,

"Ms Yingluck said “this morning, I have made merit at home and have  bought everyone”.

can make merit if she wants, but she knows the writing is on the wall for her.brother can you help me will be the message very soon

More likely brother has been making her stay. Creating chances for propaganda and even making her a martyr has its benefits.

And he won't be too inconvenienced whatever the outcome.

I wish you good fortune brave lady.

In terms of bravery, The Lady on the left has earned that title because of her years under house arrest, the lady on the right has yet to pass the test.

Maybe a short time in prison will increase her value and create an icon. So far any bravery exhibited has been by order of Thaksin.

Interesting photo. Notice the body language and distance between them. Not the warmest of meetings!

I think I pretty much understand the cultural aspects of "making merit" and think it's generally a good & worthy thing (even though some might observe a dim resemblance to the deprecated Catholic practice of buying indulgences).  But in this case, it just seems to come off as offering the Buddha a bribe ...   (Or an admittance of guilt, depending on how you look at it...)
