gebre
hello there would really appreciate some help on this one.A friend of mine travelling on an Ethiopian passport will arrive into Bangkok Bkk airport in the morning and leave the next afternoon for Laos from the other airport Dmk,. After 10 days in laos they he will return back to Dmk airport in Bangkok take a bus to Bkk airport on the same day and leave on an internetional flight back to Ethiopia. His total time in thailand for the second entry would be about 7 hours. What type of visa on arrival does he apply for when he lands.? does he get a single entray visa on arrival for 1000 baht when he lands and repeats the process when he lands and get another 1000 baht single entry visa on arrival.,,,thinking to do it this way to avoid the 3800 baht multiple entry visa....or are there in transit visas he can apply for his second entry into thailand? some advice on this really appreciated .Thank you Edited August 25, 2017 by gebre detail left out
Maestro
For a start, please go here to check visa and travel document requirements: http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/passport-visa-health-travel-document-requirements.htm#

Visa is required for passengers with an "O-I" stamp in their passport. This is an example for a UK passport holder for visa exempt. First one no surprise, although the second one is. Does Immigration still do I-O stamps? Edited August 25, 2017 by lkv
Maestro
http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/907-suvarnabhumi-visa-on-arrival The above web page indicates that nationals of Ethiopia qualify for the visa on arrival (VOA). Therefore, a VOA for each of the two entries would be appropriate.
BritTim
In theory, applying for visas in advance could save some money. However, in view of the hassles involved in doing that, the VOA approach is probably best. Be aware that the queues at the VOA desk can be long. A good book may be in order. After August 31st the fee will be 2000 baht for each one of them. If they could get a single entry tourist visa for a fee of 1000 baht (free until the 31st) they could get a single re-entry permit for a fee of 1000 baht on departure from the country at DMK that would keep the entry from the visa valid when they return from Laos. gebre
ubonjoe thank you and others for your replies.Clarification needed. The suggestion is when they arrive they ask for a single entry tourist .Since they are arriving before Aug 31 this will cost them 1000 baht. when they leave the next day from a different airport Dmk are you suggesting that they go to immigration section at Dmk and get a single re-entry permit for another 1000 baht.if this is indeed what you are suggesting where in the airport do you go to get this and how much time should he allocate to get it (standing in line etc) to get it. thanks

It would have to applied for at a Thai embassy or consulate. They would get a 15 day visa on arrival and pay a fee of 1000 baht for it if they arrive on or before August 31st. Not sure they will issue a re-entry permit for a 15 day visa on arrival entry. The desk for re-entry permits at DMK is just after departure immigration. It should not take more than 20 minutes to get one. If they could not get a re-entry permit they could get another visa on arrival when the return from their trip but if after the 31st the fee will be 2000 baht.
gebre
thank you for the clarification.I am wondering how strictly will the access to 10 000baht rule be enforced.he will only be staying one night in bangkok and i will be meeting him at th airport and covering his expnses in thailand. He will be carrying a booking for a night at a hotel. There are foreign currency restrictions in Ethiopia in terms of money that can be changed and taken out of the country.I am sending him a letter to give to immigration saying im meeting him and will be responsible for him and he has his ticket leaving the next day from Bangkok.Do you think he faces a hassle from immigration and what can be done to prevent this? thanks
Kieranmc
hardly think 10,000 THB (250 euro) is a lot of money especially if you are travelling long haul to Asia. I'm sure a letter from you means nothing - they want to see the cash.
