Hi all!

I need to do my first Non O visa and I would like to go to Savannaket from BKK.

For those who did this trip recently, is there a schedule by plane which make possible to apply for visa the same day we fly? I noticed that Sakon Nakhon has the earliest flight arrival but not sure it is possible to arrive before 11.00 am at Thai embassy...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No chance same day by plane, going by plane is complete waste of time as nothing to gain as bus from bKK so easy and times work to perfection. I'm not a bus fan but find the Bangkok to Mukdahan quite pleasant .

Returning by plane is certainly quicker but still lot of running about when at bus station to start with .

None of the fly/ride service via nearby airports arrive early enough to apply for the visa on the same day. You will either have to spend the night before applying in Mukdahan or Savannakhet. Note if you arrive at the bridge after 6 PM you may not be able to cross since that is the official closing time for the Lao visa on arrival office.

Nok Air offers their fly ride service via 3 airports. https://nokair.com/content/en/destinations/fly-n-ride/Ubon-Ratchathani-mukdahan.aspx

Air Asia does there svia Nakhon Phanom.

Ok guys, thank you for your advices.

I will ask for my first Non O visa (mariage) single or multiple entries (don't know yet) and I heard that Savannaket is the easiest consular. Any advice about Vientiane embassy? I used to go there for my tourist visa and with early flight it is possible to apply same day as flight. My concern is that they should maybe ask for more documents? Do they deliver multiple entries there?

Thank you.

You can only get a single entry non-o visa there. No problem to get it there.

Marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of wife's house book registry and ID card signed by her.

Monday to Thursday are all good. Friday also if you don't mind waiting until Monday to pickup your passport.

Thanks Ubonjoe, need same documents as Savannaket? (the vientiane website embassy is all in thai).

I heard some were asked for financial statement in Vientiane.

Same documents. No financial proof is needed.

Perhaps that was confusion with a non-o visa for retirement. Not needed for one based upon marriage.

Ubonjoe, I take advantage on my thread to ask you a question.

I read on this forum that after getting married we can ask a 60 days extension of the current visa we got. Do you know the conditions?

I'm under tourist visa, I already extended it (60+30) and the 30 days extension finish 5th September.

You can apply for a 60 day extension of your permit to stay (not your visa) to visit your wife.

She has to be with you when you apply. Marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.

Not all offices will do the extension after you already have a 30 day extension. You should  try though at your local office to find out if they will do it.

Thank you very much, I will give a try and update here.

If going savanakhet from bkk take the tour bus as I mentioned in many threads, I done both fly and bus and bus (roiet tour) is far quicker overall and far far far easier as such a perfect transport transition in term of location points and time perfections.

flying on return to bkk saves about 9hrs . If do your homework on savannakhet the O visa will be simple no hassle experience .

good info here thanks. I plan to get my first non o multiple in savan next week. seems the best way is arriving in the evening in laos and do the early morning sumbission and pickup afternoon on same day. else a longer overnight wait presumably. do we have any DL forms to fill out here?

thanks guys ;)

BTW seems I will exit thailand on my very last day of permit to stay but I guess that should be OK :)

Best way is arriving mukdahan early morning and going straight over bridge to lao savannakhet and deal with consulate application that morning and pick up following afternoon.
Several tour buses work well for this. If you arriving other hours your main concern is bridge opening hours and consulate visa hours. No issue going on last day but if you late trying cross you won't be going over which means if stayed thailand then following morning you on overstay lol .

Print all forms in advance inc lao visa on arrival and read up on the savannakhet threads as is super easy if do due diligence and make smart choice on transport hotels etc .

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don't understand why you keep pushing the idea of taking the bus to Mukdahan from Bangkok?  Flights are not expensive, can choose no hassle fly and ride service, and last year my flights were cheaper than the cost of a premium bus ticket.

thanks for answers and suggestions. however not everyone travels from bkk or are restricted to either a flight or night bus schedule. so least time spent in Laos I think would be by coming in in the afternoon (before 6pm bridge closing) & thus be out next day before 4pm (less than 24 hrs) vs. morning ~8am entry & next day afternoon pickup i.e. 30hrs++ :)

anyway moneywise I guess its similar with 1 lao hotel night lol.
any highlights for the town anyway? riverside beer laos on tap or in buckets?
cheers!

Think your getting confused you cannot put applications in after 1100hrs.  So you would in reality be in savanakhet for 2 nights.

The one who is confused is you!  Doesn't matter what time you apply, next day pickup in Savannakhet.

Night bus plans works the best, how do I know, well I done it all ways over a period of 5 years trips and found nothing faster simpler or cheaper than the night bus. flying may seem easier quicker but it not and with no same day service of visa means another nights stay . vip bus is less than 650bt at times and decent relaxed trip, straight off that and on the bus for savanakhet  same morning of arrival in mukdahan and get you visa application in that morning and got rest of day and following morning relax to your preferences . Fannying about to and at airport bkk then the minibus transfer then another evening and hotel booking needed is ridiculous compared to coach transition times, a day saved and fact no other cost beside the vip ticket . If people like fly fair enough but it certainly long long way from best way going when intention is fast easy visa trip only .

On trip return then flying works best ...
