Israeli Settlers Trap Two Palestinian Families in West Bank

Israeli settlers have kept the Abu Ridi and Hassan families confined inside two homes in the occupied West Bank village of Qusra since Sunday, the families said, alleging their water and power were cut and food supplies dwindled. Rights groups and humanitarian organisations urged Israeli authorities to act.

Siege after road blocked

Palestinian security footage shared by the families showed settlers tearing down a wall outside the Abu Ridi home on Sunday evening and using stones to obstruct the road. The families said seven people, including two young girls, were left unable to leave their properties while other Palestinians also could not reach the affected area.

The households are located in Area B, where Palestinians have civil authority but Israel controls security.

The families said they posted appeals for help after power and water were unavailable and that they were isolated.

Claims of attempts to force entry

Qusay Abu Ridi said on Facebook that the situation had become critical because the family was “completely isolated”. Aysha Hassan, speaking to Reuters, said settlers tried to break a gate and began throwing stones while insulting and cursing at the family.

Hassan said her household was “dying of fear” and “extremely terrified”.

Soldiers withdraw from outpost amid clashes

On Wednesday, Israeli security forces were reported to have pulled back from the Jewish settler outpost in Qusra following clashes with an extremist settler crowd. About a dozen settlers were said to remain at the site.

After the families first reported the incident to the Israeli army, the initial soldiers filmed praying with the settlers, according to footage posted by the homeowners.

The settlers’ wider goal was not immediately clarified, but the reported objective has previously been to empty the area of Palestinian residents, and settlers have in the past forced Palestinians out and seized property.

Access blocked for journalists and residents

Israeli settlers blocked Haaretz reporters from reaching the Palestinian properties on Monday, the newspaper said. The reporters said Israeli soldiers at the scene refused to help when their car was prevented from moving for two hours, telling them it was a closed military zone even though the restriction was not enforced on the settlers.

On Tuesday, the Israeli human rights group Yesh Din asked the head of Israel’s Central Command to protect the besieged residents, evacuate the outpost and hold settlers accountable.

Late on Tuesday, a Palestinian ambulance was allowed to reach the families, bringing food and taking one child for medical treatment.

IDF condemns outpost; UN warns of ‘breaking point’

As events unfolded, the Israel Defence Forces said it condemned the establishment of a new outpost, calling entry into Palestinian homes and taking them “illegal, reprehensible, and unacceptable”. The IDF said border police evacuated a tent used by settlers and were working to remove civilians staying there, adding that the incident was ongoing. It also said disciplinary steps would be taken against documented personnel.

Early on Wednesday, Maj Gen Avi Bluth and other senior officers arrived and met residents, describing “grave concern”.

The Palestinian village mayor, Abdel Azim Wadi, told the BBC residents had observed a sustained pattern of targeting Qusra. He cited last month’s arson attack on a mosque accompanied by Hebrew graffiti nearby.

The siege comes amid a broader escalation. The UN’s Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alakbarov, told the Security Council on Tuesday that settler violence had reached “unprecedented levels” and that the West Bank was “at breaking point”. UN figures cited said 76 Palestinians, including 18 children, have been killed in the West Bank this year by Israeli forces or settlers. It also cited the killing of three Israelis in clashes with Palestinians and an alleged ramming attack by a Palestinian.

The UN said 127 Palestinian communities experienced full or partial displacement since January 2023, including 47 entirely displaced, affecting more than 6,390 people. It added that in 2026, about 3,800 Palestinians—nearly half children—have been displaced due to settler violence, demolitions and evictions.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, rejected the idea that settlements are an obstacle to peace, saying they would remain and expand, and told the Security Council that Israel would not “go anywhere”.

Quite disgusting isn't it..at war since its inception 🤮

should all just go move to New York New York and be done with it once and for all

leave the 'goat shepherds' alone to tend their herds.

So, you favour genocide : Forcibly removing Jews from the land.

You favour apartheid : Jews and Muslims living part from each other .

And you favour terrorism :

Some of the settlers when asked why they live in these fairly desolate areas have responded by saying it's cheap. Well of course it is, stolen land is always cheap, that's what the settlers used to say in the US in the 1870s after the land was stolen from the natives.

Access to the homes has been blocked by settlers since Sunday

Activists have attempted to deliver food and water to Palestinian families trapped inside their homes in Qusra, where Israeli settlers have maintained a siege for days. The families say their electricity and water supplies have been cut, while access to their homes remains blocked.

Supplies left outside as families remain trapped

Activists left aid near one of the homes after Israeli forces prevented them from delivering it directly to residents, according to two Palestinians inside. The Israeli military denied blocking the aid, saying Qusra had been designated a “closed military zone” and Israeli civilians could not enter.

The IDF said civilians were nevertheless allowed to transfer supplies to Palestinian homes. It also said soldiers removed a tent erected by settlers near the site on Friday, a day after security forces had dispersed them.

Settlers return as tensions surge

The confrontation follows a week of escalating tensions. Settlers first blocked roads leading to the families’ gates on Sunday, cutting off power and water, while an earlier group of Israeli soldiers was filmed praying with them — an incident the military said would lead to disciplinary action.

An attempt to remove the settlers on Wednesday triggered clashes with a larger crowd. Palestinian security footage reviewed by the BBC showed Israeli soldiers and border police using tear gas and stun grenades as they confronted settlers.

Watch: How Israeli settlers are besieging Palestinian family homes in West Bank

Palestinians ordered out as pressure mounts

During Thursday’s operation, about a dozen Palestinian households were told to leave their properties, including members of two families living in the besieged homes. Qusra’s mayor said Israeli forces were subsequently using some vacated Palestinian houses as barracks.

The military said soldiers had been instructed that residents would remain in their homes and that the operation was intended to protect them.

West Bank displacement reaches critical levels

The episode has renewed scrutiny of settler violence and the Israeli military’s ability to contain it. Israeli settlements are considered illegal under international law, while Israel’s government has supported their expansion.

The UN says 127 Palestinian communities have experienced full or partial displacement since January 2023, affecting more than 6,390 Palestinians. About 3,800 Palestinians have been displaced by settler violence, demolitions and evictions in 2026 alone, nearly half of them children.

The incident isn't a part of Israeli government policy

I am saddened that you are not condemning this aggression by Israeli settlers and lying about these illegal settlements and settler aggression not being govt policy.

There are children, for god's sake man, being locked in their house as the terrorists, yes even Huckabee called them that, are terrorising and not allowing the families out. There has not been one terrorist arrested. Please explain your stance in this. The whole world is watching this episode and you are defending these terrorists it seems. Please say what you think about settler aggression in the West Bank and do you really think they are not supported by senior Israeli cabinet ministers?

Only fools claim they are not supported by senior Israeli cabinet members. It's also obvious, also the IDF is supporting them.

I agree but would like to here from usually intelligent members like @Jingthing or other pro Israeli members. As I thought, as the Israeli attributes have become widely known, they would conveniently disappear as the literally have no defense if the Israel terror.

“The horrors unfolding in Qusra are far from an isolated incident. They reflect the relentless escalation and expansion of an accelerating and well-documented pattern of coordinated and strategic settler terror, enabled, backed and funded by the State of Israel, with the aim of displacing Palestinians across the occupied West Bank.

https://www.amnesty.org.au/israel-opt-siege-of-palestinian-homes-in-qusra-marks-relentless-escalation-in-state-backed-settler-violence/

Let's see @Hawaiian or @Ben Zioner or @ezzra @Hanaguma try to defend the illegal settlers who are subsidized by the Israeli government with lower taxes etc and encouraged by senior government ministers like Smotrich to use violence to steal more land.
