  1. i am absolutely sure that insurance "companies" have more tricks and deceipt at their disposal than any average person can imagine. what they can do and have done to make life miserable for those who have in good faith handed over money... year after year.... is very well documented . If you had posted your past experience( or links) with April here on this thread.... for all to see.. it would give a very clear idea of just how bad the claim procedure can be . Sheryl's comment (regarding thai insurers):"The basis for deciding, after the fact, that a confition was pre-existing is sometimes ludicrous/makes no medical sense". is right on, and I for one am sure that the same treatment is almost universal . Just one link , of many on this subject, i posted in another comment on this thread.
  2. any exclusions for "pre-existing conditions" ? i would think that most 70 yr olds would have some... if not many
  3. I am pretty sure that this link is an "approved source" . I believe that you and many others have had good experiences . But "never a problem " seems to be very far from the standard in the US . https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/analysis-health-insurance-claim-denials-are-on-the-rise-to-the-detriment-of-patients As i am someone in the "self insure" group .... my experience is that I have never had a problem . Never even had to fight anyone to pay the bill . Since stress is known to be a major factor in causing health problems.... i attribute not having to deal with insurance battles as being very positive . The irony is : if one has health issues that might turn serious , then it would seem prudent to buy health insurance. The catch 22 is that you won't be covered for those issues ! "A recent KFF study of ACA plans found that even when patients received care from in-network physicians — doctors and hospitals approved by these same insurers — the companies in 2021 nonetheless denied, on average, 17% of claims. One insurer denied 49% of claims in 2021; another’s turndowns hit an astonishing 80% in 2020. Despite the potentially dire impact that denials have on patients’ health or finances, data shows that people appeal only once in every 500 cases." ouch
  4. Hi Simon ........ didn't you have a VERY STRESSFUL experience with your insurance company ? About a year or so ago ? I remember an ongoing disaster that you described in detail here on this forum at that time . I do believe you did not "win" ... were denied coverage.... and had to go back to your country . ( my facts may not be accurate, but maybe you can share here) Certainly i think that your example would be very important to this discussion about whether anyone who "does not pay an insurance company" is crazy
  5. even worse can be the shock and horror of NOT setting aside whatever you can each year , so that you will be prepared for the draining of all your expectations when the insurance company denies your coverage after putting you through all kinds of stress. over and over again ? for large amounts ? Insurance companies ? I don't think so...
  6. if you haven't found the Decathlon store yet ..... it is on the Chiangmai----Lamphun access road ...... across from the BIG Court House ( san dek intersection) coming from lamphun make a U turn at that intersection, and go about 100 + meters and it is on your left . Big store, set back from road a little bit (drive slow)
  7. Choice : pay, pay, pay ...year after year . hoping to avoid the stress, pain and suffering from a "major issue" . Then: pay, raised premiums , pay , raised premiums Then: the moment finally comes. you are injured or disabled or very ill . You make your claim , and are in a very ill state . https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/analysis-health-insurance-claim-denials-are-on-the-rise-to-the-detriment-of-patients Not for me , thanks.
  8. As i said ...................... also a very long and stressful ( very common) personal anecdote from one of the longtime members on AN ........ ending in him finally making the departure to go back home for care ( a year or so ago). maybe he will weigh in again on his experience ( but it is also not advisable to name names ( companies, etc) due to the laws here 🙂
  9. self insure. the sooner you start ...... the more money and stress you will save . listen to those on here who are many, that heard those famous words a. your premium has been raised b. we have decided that you are not covered for that condition note: this is my opinion, and has worked very well for me over the last 30 years
  10. I don't know if the source (rumak) would be a credible one, according to ........ Nearing menopause can be quite disruptive to females ( so i am told ) Also... many Thais seem to have a certain disorder caused by the pandering many received growing up . Which continues into adulthood when allowed 🙂
  11. i'm sure you will get a few more recommendations for this doctor . see him at his own clinic near Rajawet hospital .... eves and sat morning ( i am about due to go to check out my knee (again ! ) what is your age ( just curious) . probably younger than me (73 ) Dr.Chanakarn - Orthopaedics Clinic, Chiang Mai. Tel : (+66) 53 204 545 (+66) 6
  12. i do believe that your original post went over the heads of the opposition . ( opposition here meaning those still clinging to the usual "news' "facts" .) Thankfully even this forum has shown that sooner or later other views will get out, and also many members have seen with their own eyes what is happening . And being such kind and loving souls ...... are graciously stepping to the side to let the crowds of booster seekers be assured of a place in line .
  13. Not as simple as "just going to land office" and making a usufruct . They can deny it or charge a fee ( percentage of the land value) .....depending on circumstances and/or their "discretion" . NR .... you really should consult me ...... my fee is exactly the same as the value most people put on my advice 😅
  14. soi 3 and SRB have "learned" ...... and i guess i have as well . our comments are not those of "bitter old men" . just maybe trying to give real life examples , from which we (hopefully) learnt . don't think any of us will be taking the leap off any tall buildings ...........
