American resident jumps to his death from a Jomtien condo

PATTAYA: -- Police were called to a grisly scene at the Jomtien Plaza condo shortly after 2 a.m. on December 23. Robert George Weisser, 59, had jumped to his death from his 23rd floor apartment.

Initial examinations showed that Weisser had also tried to hang himself. Officers proceeded to the man’s apartment, calling for condo security to use a spare key to open the door.

The inspection showed no signs of struggle and police found a suicide note and the man’s passport.

Shortly thereafter, Weissman’s girlfriend arrived at the condo. Thongbai Somimmadun, 35, told police that she knew Robert was ill and that he was facing financial difficulties, but could not give further details, as she did not know. Thongbai said she was out of the apartment when the incident occurred.

Police sent Robert Weisser’s body to the forensic institute for further examination. They are treating the event as a suicide and have informed US embassy officials.

American Leaves Suicide Note

24th December: Dead farang found at Jomtien Plaza Condo Hotel

At 2 AM on December 23, Police Major Taelirt Lerper, Investigations Inspector at the Pattaya Police Station, received a report about a dead farang at the Jomtien Plaza Condo Hotel.

When the police and Sawang Boriboon volunteers arrived at the hotel, they found the dead body of a 59-year old American named Mr. Robert George Weisser. His bloody corpse was on a landing on the fifth floor of the condo. He lived on the 23 floor and had a nurse, khun Tawngbai Sominmatdan, 35 who took care of him. He had apparently jumped the 18 floors.

Khun Tawngbai told the police that Mr. Robert had a brain tumor and was in a great deal of pain. At 7 PM, khun Tawngbai said she saw Mr. Robert writing a letter, after which she had gone home.

In his room, the police found a handwritten letter in pencil that said in part: "I am dieing from the drugs and vodka I took but still I want to go off for the thrill. Mail for me its to tell them see what evil didn’t do. I loved all my life. It was wonderful except I cannot take the pain anymore. Papa Hemmingway."

The Sawang Boriboon picked up the body and the authorities have notified the American embassy in Bangkok.

Another Pattaya suicide. At least this time he didn't have two bullets to the back of the head before 'jumping' to his death. Funny how there are always 'drugs and alcohol' involved..(well how else do you get some big farang over the railing if he won't cooperate)?

I wonder if the Embassies ever call for these suicide notes to be analysed by comparing them with other previous correspondence written by the deceased. That's about the time the 'evidence' disappears I reckon.."Mail for me its to tell them see what evil didn't do.." Oh, Okay.

Last Will and Testament probably handwritten too and says: "Leeve money to I nurse teelac and condo to bruther. My car leeve to Pol. Captain Napagaew Priposonangoaewporn."

I am also cynical when it comes to farangs 'jumping' from tall buildings so frequently in Pattaya. However, this case at least appears to be an actual suicide. It is tragic that too many of the ex-pats that choose Pattaya to live end up choosing Pattaya as the place to die.

In my opinion the photo is in very poor taste, it sounds like the man had a very hard time just before this was taken and I think it should be removed at once.

Lets hope bkk bound is never in a serious accident when a thai photographer is around see how he or she would like to be headline news.

I agree. Lets show a little respect for the dead. Lord only knows what anguish these people suffer to make them prefer deceleration trauma to life.

Fully agree.

I agree, it is sad enough that someone decides to take their own life, It seems a bit morbid for us to have a photo of his corpse, I think it should be removed as it is un-necessary.

Thanks, it bothered me too. If I want to see grisly pictures, I'll turn on a local tv channel...

There are way WAY too many farang suicides in Pattaya. It's easy to write them off as 'fat old alcoholic on his way down hill anyway, and Pattaya was the last stop in a sorry life.'

That attitude gives all of the authorities here a gift. From the police to the Embassy/Consular staff. Let's close the book. And the nefarious types can take full advantage comfortable in the knowledge that no one will look closely.. The Thai GF was always doing the laundry at 3am and didn't see the jump, etc. There always seems to be a big overdose of drugs in the system..

As I said before, does ANYBODY (other than Pattaya police..well please) analyse the hand writing of these Wills or suicide notes?? Or at very least do the Consular staff follow up who benefits financially from the demise?? Ambassadors (or at least consulars) should be FIRED from their jobs if this is not done routinely.

Every single expat guy (and families too) should care about this. Cause YOU could be next, my friend!

Why don't they stop building condo towers???

If these guys are pushed from the second floor of a townhouse they have a better chance of survival ... :o
