The case against John Mark Karr was dropped after forensic tests found that his DNA did not match that discovered at the scene of the crime. Mr Karr, 41, was arrested in Thailand two weeks ago and had been due to appear in court on Monday. He has said he was there when the girl died, but her death was an accident. Outside court on Monday public defender Seth Temin gave a statement: "The warrant on Mr Karr has been dropped by the district attorney. They're not proceeding with this case. "We're deeply distressed by the fact that they took this man and dragged him here from Bangkok, Thailand with no forensic evidence confirming the allegations against him, and no independent factors leading to a presumption that he did anything wrong." 'No forensic evidence' Mr Karr's arrest sparked hopes in the United States that one of the most infamous crimes of recent years might finally be solved. The BBC's John Kay in California says there has been hysterical media coverage of developments. Mr Karr's ex-wife Lara has insisted he was with her in Alabama for the entire Christmas period of 1996. And Mr Karr's family insisted he was innocent, saying he was deluded, possibly as a result of taking drugs. JonBenet's body was found in the cellar of her family home after her parents had reported her missing on 26 December 1996. She had been garrotted with a cord and her skull had been fractured. He will be able to buy his old Bloom residence in Bangkok many times over. He might have to face some minor misdemeanor charges in California, but compared to what he will gain, a mere triviality. He already has a movie deal (I think), not to mention the potential book deals, etc. I don't think the case will ever be solved. It is a very cold case. Lets get real. Since Mr. Carr was arrested, there were no doubtful scores of heinous crimes against children committed all over the globe. Why the absurd obsession on one ten year old case? Its nuts. And Mr. Karr has exploited our collective nuttiness and is about to become crazy rich. For those considering jumping out of a window in despair, consider the Mr. Karr wealth building plan. They chased him down, and then he flipped out. There also was never a clear confession. Just a bunch of ambiguous, vague statements, clearly the ramblings of a nutter seeking fame. And boy did he get it. On the contrary, if I was a lawyer, I would be lining up a list of people he can sue. But I suspect if he does any jail or prison time, it'll be in isolation. I'm sure there are a number of prisoners who would be more than happy to introduce him to 'prison justice'. While the Thai spin will be interesting, I want to hear the US spin....... they had enough evidence to satisfy "Probable Cause" which obtained a warrant signed by a judge, this would also suffice for extradition. ALL that is required for extradition is a warrant from elsewhere, no evidence is taken nor required, UNLESS the extradition is contested, which Karr did not. How did the prosecutor obtain a warrant? jasperblubber2005 Posted August 29, 2006 Share Posted August 29, 2006 this has to be a terrible blow to our everknowing news media, has there credability ever been lower than what it is today?, some people treat the news they read as gospel and yet a week doesn't go by that this group doesn't distort what most people would find as truth. some of you may remember the story when it first broke, news outlets stated that john karr had been picked up on unrelated charges in bangkok, what charges were these?, after the second day nothing was said about the unrelated charges, the day before this story went out there was a story about two fighter planes escorted an american plane in, i beleive it was amsterdam, it was reported that a passenger had some vaseline and a screw driver, the next day the media says nothing about the vaseline or the screwdriver but instead state that the lady on the plane who caused the commotion had a panic attack. yea i can see how they could get a screw driver and vaseline confused with a panic attack this happens all the time, is my hope that many of you who follow the news closely will take another look at what passes for news today, thirty or forty years ago the competition for viewers was not what it is today, todays news networks will twist, distort and do what ever it takes to get you to watch the crap that they put out on a daily basis, there was a time when i use to read the paper front to back but today the only news i see is while using the exercise equipment at the local gym, unfortunately they place the tv's in front of the most popular equipment and it is almost impossible not to see some of the crap these folks dish out to the public. my heart goe's out to the ramsey family, it appeared that closure was very close but unfortunately justice will not come today, as for myself i have more faith in santa claus and the easter bunny than i do in the media news today jasper Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Speaking strictly for myself, on the thread concerning his arrest, I personally didn't make any comments one way or the other, mostly because I wasn't overly convinced about his involvement in murder. He seemed more like a first-class mental case to me. Regardless, concerning California, he was most certainly found guilty of possessing kiddie porn - lots of it. Add to that he was a fugitive from justice by fleeing the country to avoid sentencing, I'd be surprised if he just gets a simple slap on the hands and a scolding about it. Stating, "american justice" and "innocent until proved guilty" is suppose to mean what? I've mentioned "prison justice", not because it's just or fair, but because it's not something unheard of and has indeed happened on other occasions. He was returned to the US as a "suspect" in the murder case. The DA in Boulder, said nothing about any charges or evidences. If anything, they wanted him for questioning in the case to determine whether or not there was probable cause to charge him and put him on trial for the murder. There were some rather odd things that popped up that needed to be clarified in order to put him at the scene of the crime. Then whilst under arrest, he admitted to the murder of the girl in the US.
