If I go alone to penang alone,

How can I stay at a hotel where request me to show them passport,

because I must urgently go to office to apply visa first.

Maybe they dont accept passport copy.

Where is nice hotel near thai office?

My burget is under 90RM.

There are no hotels nearby the Thai consulate. The consulate is located in a residential neighborhood well outside of downtown Georgetown. Try one of the hotels on Penang Street in Georgetown (Oriental, Continental).

Hotels will accept your receipt for passport issued by the Royal Thai Consulate for check-in. Consulate is in residential area so you should stay in the normal downtown area of Georgetown which is the area of Penang and Chula. There are a number of hotels available for that money. Oriental, Waldorf, Cathay and many others. I always liked the Continental and believe old section is probably still in that range.

with bathtub, TV ,refregirator, so which is most reasonable?

as continenal is mostly full, not averable.

The Oriental is fine for a couple of nights. The price always seems to be RM69, regardless of the season. Negotiate if they ask the price shown on their web site. http://www.oriental-hotel-penang.com/

Leave your passport with NJ Bookstore just a 100 metres down Chulia St and collect it after 2.00pm the following day complete with new visa ... Saves the taxi fares to and from the consulate (his fee amounts to less).... and a lot of hassel.

What time must I reach the agency besides swiss hotel?

If over 12 noon, can they accept passport wirh excess charge?

I plan to use agency, if I miss the time to reach consulate at 12 noon.

When receive passport, we have enought time to use the bus from penang street to reach near highschool, from there , we can go to consulate on foot,

dont need to use taxi every time.

From the main road near airport, how much will it cost to go to consulate by taxi? maybe 20rm?

Whatever you do make sure that you tell the taxi driver that you want to go to the Thai consulate, not the "Thai office" as you have referred to it occasionally throughout your numerous threads, or you apt to be dropped off at the Thai Airways office on Jalan McAllister. :o

Can taxi understand thai consulate?

or should I tell the driver, thai embassy?

By the way, many farang said, cathy hotel is very nice,

but for me no bathtub and 69rm, why so good?

If the price is 20rm, I dont use cathy hotel without bathtub.

Why in the world would you ask the taxi driver to take you to the Thai embassy? The Thai embassy is in Kuala Lumpur. :o

The malay word (to my knowledge) for consulate is Konsulat.

Regardless, there have been so many thai tourists/travellers/expacts who have gone to have their visas renewed in Penang that im sure you will have no problems.

If you are concerned, ask the airport staff to help you. You could always download a map or mark it on a map and show the driver.

Also, can always get a copy of Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, Malay phrasebook or just Google for some simple phrases to help you express where you want to go.

Im going myself to Penang next month...please post how you get on. Cheers.

_______

edit: just found out that the phrase you may be seeking is " Boleh bawa saya ke Konsulat Thailand." (Can you please take me to the thai consulate). I am sorry but I dont know the malay word for Thailand. I have a few malay friends..i can ask them to confirm. I'll post when i hear back from them.

If you have only one night in Penang, forget a visa service. Go straight to the consulate to avoid the visa service f*cking up ...

At the airport tell the taxi counter you want to go to the embassy .... 38 ringgit gives you a guaranteed hassle free ride to the consultate. Then for 12 ringgit go back to Chulia Street. At the mouth of the street (Penang side) you have the Garden City Hotel. Get a 50 ringgit room with aircon, hot water and a TV (don't expect much content though).

Next day goto the consulate by taxi (bus - very irregular, didn't see any )before 2:00 pm and go straight to the airport. Rate is around 35 ringgit (Komtar-Consulate-Airport). I am sure you can find somebody the consulate who likes to share a ride.

Do u think that we have enought time to wait long line waiting taxi?

usually how many minute must we wait taxi at airport?

you never got out airport and go to main street to catch taxi?

Posted
and if use airport taxi, 38rm with waiting long, but if use taxi on the main road, we pay only 20-25rm with waiting a few minutes?

Penang is not Bangkok and Malaysia is not Thailand. You will not wait any length of time if you catch a taxi at airport terminal. You will not get a taxi for half-price if you stand out on the highway.

Is there a place near the Consulate to get watermelon?

Dunno... Starfruit maybe. You may have to go to Chinatown in KL for watermelon.

Posted bizarre questions have a way of sticking in my memory, lindaz:

So I must use skybus to KLcentral.

If its difficult to catch train or bus, can I go to chinatown on foot?

I see the map of KL and it seems to be 1500m from KLcentral to pasar seri station.

Maybe I will stay at chinatown, then can I ask you something about shopping there?

Can I buy fruit in chinatown? Are there shopping center to sell watermelon?

Whatever you decide, you'll want to make sure you have exact change. In the sage words of a fellow visa-seeker:

I ever used taxi in bangkok.

the meter was indicating 75B, but I didnt have small money, so

I gave him 500B note,

at that time he suddenly down the meter to clear indicating price, then said

cleared already, and didnt give back to me the change 425B,

from that time, I never used taxi in south asian country.

So I must use train or bus.

Too bad there's not a train at the airport in Penang, but if you stand out on the highway and wait for the bus... :o

ovenman, you also think I am that one?

How can you find out that?

i think there are no clue.

Clues abound... In your own wise words from last Friday:

Yes I think so, the 2 person use same english sentense form, maybe same person, lol

lindaz from January:

I am looking for reasonable hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Convinient location for shopping fruits is desirable.

I want bathtub, refregirator in room.

My burget is less than 150 RM.

Please teach me suitable hotels.

panda66 from yesterday:

Anybody willing to take a few moments to review lindaz's posting history in general and specifically her(?) numerous questions about travel to Kuala Lumpur exactly three months ago (tourist visa + thirty day extension?), will find some striking similarities in "sentense form" among other things to all of your recent questioning about Penang.

BTW - It's budget and refrigerator. :o

Why can you remind, remember the sentense which had made 3 months ago?

As there are too many people here.

Much like elephants, some of us never forget.
