The Annals of Internal Medicine (June 98) reports that plants whose essential oils have been reported to have repellent activity include citronella, cedar, verbena, pennyroyal, geranium, lavender, pine, cinnamon, rosemary, basil, thyme, allspice, garlic, and peppermint. But be aware that these only work when the leaves are crushed and the oils released.

As sbk wrote already: most effective are the essential oils of these plants - couple of drops of your favorite (fragrance) oil in one of the evaporators and here you go.

I still find the ARS Mats with these little electronic devices most effective.

Mosquito screens...make sure they are all kept close after 17:00, around sunset, no water puddles, if decorative water basins make sure there are fish in there, good ventilation...

Eucalyptus citriadora oil is the only one recommended to protect against malaria-carrying mosquitos. It's as effective as DEET and is sold in pharmacies in Thailand as a spray under the brand name Sketolene. You can't just put a plant of your window sill and hope it repels mosquitos.
