US Man Get 16 Years for Thai Sex Offense

BANGKOK, Thailand — An American man was sentenced Tuesday to 16 years in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl and sexually abusing a second teenager in a Thai seaside resort town, police said.

Glenn Richard Allen, 61, was arrested in March last year in a sweep of persons suspected of sexually abusing children, said police Maj. Panya Chahemthet. He was arrested at his condominium in Pattaya, where he has lived for more than 10 years.

He was among six people arrested, including two Britons, a Finn, and two Thai women accused of procuring the girls. Their cases are being tried separately.

Allen was found guilty in the Bangkok Criminal Court of raping the 13-year-old girl in 2006 and sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl last year. He had pleaded not guilty.

Allen was released on bail pending an appeal. Police were unable to identify his hometown in the U.S.

Pattaya, 45 miles southeast of Bangkok, is notorious for its sex industry.

Last week, an American English teacher facing child sex charges in the United States was detained in Thailand. Earl R. Bonds, 42, of Missouri, was held after authorities received a request from the FBI for his arrest.

American gets 16 years in Thai prison for raping girls

BANGKOK - An American man convicted of raping young girls was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Thailand, where he was arrested last year, a court official said on Tuesday.

The Thai Criminal Court found Glenn Richard Allen, 61, guilty of raping two girls under 13 and molesting two other girls in 2007 in Thailand's eastern seaside resort town of Pattaya, the official said.

Allen was arrested along with two Britons - Maurice John Praill and Stephen James Ellison - and a Finnish man identified only by his first name Hero in March 2007 in Pattaya for allegedly sexually abusing under-aged girls.

Police claimed the four were part of an international gang of human traffickers and pedophiles in Pattaya, and seized video and film cameras containing electronic child pornography images.

A child welfare activist said Thai prosecutors had filed charges separately against the four, but declined to comment on the status of the charges against the remaining three.

Thailand has become the focus of international concerns over sexual abuse of children following a spate of arrests.
