Good, it's about time Sex Tourism became a thing of the past and Sex tourists are made to feel ashamed instead of slapping each other on the back and bragging about exploiting the victims. :D

I fear this thread will quickly be zapped. :o

I disagree that ALL sex tourism should be stopped, I think having semi legitimate brothels/massage parlors ect.. prevents some men from commiting sex offences toward women or children.

I do agree with the Uk police stepping in to give a hand with the sick trade of kids and women who are not doing by their own choice though.

Being pedantic, the first mention of sex tourists was your post. The initial post is about the sex trade in general, so would appear to include Thais.

I am pretty sure the UK police are here not to interfere with what Thai nationals are doing, but what their own Citizens get up to in Thailand and other Asian countries.

Lets hope they work more closely with the Asian police forces to really deter these beasts.

Any man that is willing to travel thousands of miles with the express purpose of exploiting a situation that exists in poorer countries should be taken down if there is any offence being commited. People may not be so quick to have sex with an underage child in their own country, but in certain Asian countries they think it is perfectly acceptable to do it. It is wrong.

People openly Boast about going with Asian Minors on various Internet sites, it has got to be stopped and the perps should know that will be no safe haven for this activity.

I think the regulars here know my stance on this subject, and I cannot accept any defence for people that travel the world solely to participate in the sex trade in any form. Sex tourists and their Apologists and defenders should have their passports taken away. Sick. :o:D

His posts here smack of major hipocrisy. While I agree with ridding the world of child abusers and such filth, to have some moral crusade against consenting adults indulging in sex for pay is bizzare.

I'd like to point out that not all sex tourists are pedophiles, the average guy who comes over for a few Changs, a Thai massage and that little extra they charge extra for, cannot be placed in the same catagory as a child molester.

Not by a long shot. I'd also like to add that the majority of pedohpiles in Thailand do not cross any borders to get here.

Good day to all.

My cousin invited me to Thailand to visit the glorious country of wonderful people who are friendly and smile all the time.

He did not however mention to me of the sex trade and I had never heard of it until after I accepted his generous invitation to visit there.

What irks me about the nature of the sex tourism is that

a) I am very much in opposition to exploitation of the poor and sexual relations with someone who must sell themselves because "it's a living" is repulsive. Prostitutes are one thing, in the industrialised world they choose thier profession with many other options available, it's not paying for sex that is an issue.

My personal relationships mean more to me than that but that's my business.

:D When I now tell people that I am going to visit Thailand, they immediately assume I am going to visit the sex trade, not the country of Thailand, it's culture and it's peoples. The idea of travelling to a foriegn country half a world away to go to a brothel is a little surprising to say the least we all have escort services in the phone book.

In my home country of Canada the aboriginal native populations have given in to selling the forests and joined in the overfishing of the oceans to make thier money.

I always find it ironic that as we grow into a more expansively civilized global culture, the more opportunistic and less respect we seem to have for the reality we hand our children, who no doubt will NOT be allowing foriegn tourists to put thier penises into thier bodies to gratify their selfish sexual desires.

Sorry to deviate from topic, good luck to the Brits, the worlds children need their help, they are far too nieve of the ways of the world. And I don't care if the Thai's do it. Maybe we should educate them as to why they should not.

The main point is that none of the girls in the 'sex tourism' scene have to sell themselves. There are alternatives inThailand too. They make their choice and make their money.

I'm afraid that if you think that all prostitutes in the West do the job by choice you are walking around with your head up your arse.

Before people start attacking so called 'sex tourism' in Thailand, I always ask if they have helped to save the 'crack whores' to be found in their own home towns before trying to save the poor Thai girls from having to sleep with evil fat Western men for vast sums of money by Thai standards. The answer is always no.

Those who criticise 'sex tourists' are more often than not former 'sex tourists' themselves, who think they have somehow moved on a stage in their Thai experience. People like Doctor John spring to mind.

I agree the scene isn't pretty a lot of the time but its there and both parties are fully consenting and both get rewarded.

Think of your average bargirl as the equivalent of prostitutes in the West who specialise in sleeping with rich Arabs, and not the shambling 'crack whores' one sees shambling around the streets awaiting Doctor John and Boris to name a few to come and rescue them.

Many times in the past I have taken people to the likes of Patpong, Nana Plaza and Pattaya only for their preconceptions to be shattered. More often than not they are left feeling a little flat that instead of something racy and scandalous (as the scene is so often painted in the Western media) in reality its all a little benign.

When I now tell people that I am going to visit Thailand, they immediately assume I am going to visit the sex trade, not the country of Thailand, it's culture and it's peoples. The idea of travelling to a foriegn country half a world away to go to a brothel is a little surprising to say the least we all have escort services in the phone book.

There are always going to be people who have a snigger when you mention you go to Thailand a lot. Thats their luck out. Don't let other people's ignorance put you off visiting. Ever!

Yea, right, old Harry the Tescos shelf filler sex tourist who is in Thailand for cheap beer and sex is the equivalent of a rich Arab in Earls Court......And the girls in Thailand all get an equal opportunity of a good education and they can collect Social security handouts as well, and Mom and POp do very well on the Pensions they recieve, as well as child Allowance and other benefits............. :D

Tell me Prof, what planet are you from? :D

I agree with you on this point. It has been reported that there are organized groups who make money from touring Bkk and upcountry villages to recruit girls for various "jobs" either in Thailand or outside. Same thing goes on in other Asean countries, not that this justifies it.

Here is a link to heavily documented research on how things work for getting girls to Japan, either for the sex trade or to work in other industries for cheap wages.

http://www.hrw.org/reports/2000/japan/index.htm

But all of this going on is no surprise. It all depends on what societies are willing to accept. America still tolerates certain amounts of human trafficking. America and England used to tolerate trafficking of undentured servants until not too long ago. Both America and Africa used to tolerate trafficking of slaves (yes, the white people weren't the only ones getting rich from slavery). The American massage parlor industry has been booming for the last 15-20 years. Most of this is run by Korean, Chinese and Eastern European mob groups (whose links do extend to Thailand).

The Japanese society in many ways is so decadent, corrupt and wealthy, that vast groups of people can afford to pay to have women imported from all over the world, including not only Thailand and other Asean countries, but also America, Eastern Europe, Russia, etc.

It all gets down to what people will tolerate and what they won't. Unfortunately, this also includes the families who will put their children and adult daughters up for sale. Unfortunately, other than tolerance, it boils down to simple supply and demand. People are willing to put up demand, and other people are willing to arrange supply. Most unfortunate, is that when it comes to supply, poverty or fear of poverty is often a driving factor in decisions.

Tough topic that hits close to home.

Working Girls in japan? No, unless you mean Japanese office workers.

Chuchok, rifle through my posts again to come up with something better. :D

You will not find one post that refers to the sex trade as being a good thing in any way shape or form. :D

Personally I think these threads always end up as ' Doctor John ' v The sex tourists or their apologists, ( Funny how I am always vastly outnumbered ).

I now know how ' Begs ' used to feel when his high moral stance was under attack from these undesirables looking for self justification. :o

Regional training held for sex crime fighters

BANGKOK: -- A two-week regional training programme on combating serious sexual offences is being held in Bangkok to help law enforcement officials fight the global threat posed by sex offenders.

Britain is paying for the programme, which costs GBP 38,000 (about 2.7 million baht), though the United States and Australia are also contributing.

Britain's Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell said sex tourists and internet predators are issues of growing concern in Southeast Asia. London wanted to tackle abuse of children overseas by British paedophiles, and arrest offenders.

The course, which runs until tomorrow at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Bangkok, has drawn 55 police and other law enforcement officers from the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Laos, Macau, Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

Mr Rammell said delegates would have a chance to look at recent developments in child sex tourism and on-line child abuse, and learn techniques for interviewing sex offenders using videotaped examples and practical exercises before going back to train their colleagues at home. He hoped the course would enhance regional cooperation and lead to more arrests and prosecutions of sex offenders and paedophiles.

``In the long term, we hope there will be less on-line child abuse originating from the region and fewer sex tourists coming here,'' said Mr Rammell.

The net is closing in on the Beasts.

I wonder how many of the sex tourism supporters club would actually publically support it.

Instead of in a forum, I wonder how many would support sex tourism on a soapbox at speakers corner.

I wonder how Husbands or wives, Fathers or Mothers, children or work friends, would feel about the Beast in their midst? :o

WHO are you against Doc J? You talk about 'beasts' and 'sex tourists' as if they were one in the same.

Are you really against the guy who comes over for a massage + extra?

Are you against the woman that has CHOSEN prostitution as her proffesion?

As surly you must understand the difference between the 2 consenting adults as opposed to the abused woman/child?

I have asked DR J and others these questions so many times never had anyone with the balls to answer.

Shola

Dr J is a biggot, he paints every one with out the same values as him as a child molester or a beast, he lives in a very Black and White world.. not sure what planet though..

Why do you think i am a Bigot ?

Sex tourists get so defensive when faced with the reality of their acts, I always am amazed at all the posts that slag me off and defend sex tourists....then again, maybe I should not be amazed at all.

Maybe a sex tourist would see himself in my posts and feel it is a personal attack, ( which is ridiculous as I do not know you at all ), hence the attacks on me by the people that feel I am on their case. I have never accused any particular person of being a sex tourist or exploiter, you only associate yourselves with a particular character because you know how you conduct your lives. :o
