Some years ago I worked with a Thai organisation, which shall be nameless....but it was a large, publicly owned corporation. I spent three years with them.

During that time I socialised fairly often with my Thai counterparts. The first paid sex I had in Thailand was provided for me by my Thai colleagues. It was noticeable that most of them would make a trip to a massage-parlour every time we went out for a meal.

Yes, sex tourism is endemic. But so is the use of prostitutes throughout the Thai male population.

Some of the prostitutes are hairdressers. Some are mia noi. But there are lots and lots of them.

Several of my female colleagues from those days have still never married, because they will not tolerate the widespread habit of Thai males to indulge in paid extra-marital sex.
