I am wanting to take my wife and kids to the UK for a 3 week holiday to visit my mother and the rest of my family. I am legally married to my wife (Thai) my wife has an 8 year old daughter from her marriage to Thai man. We have a 2 year old daughter from our marraige, our daughter has both UK and Thai passports so my daughter does not need a visa.

As mentioned we are only going for 3 weeks, i need to take my daughter and family to see my mother, as she cannot travel all the way over here because of her age, and she is not getting any younger.

I keep reading on TV about the problems people are having getting UK Visa's, and i am wondering if i will have the same problems for my wife and her daughter.

Like i said it is only for a 3 weeks holiday.

Any information would be grateful

Cheers Geordie

The 'problems' that most people post about are due to not being able to prove a genuine relationship and so genuine reason for the visit, or not being able to provide a reason to return. Neither of these, from what you have posted, will apply to you.

Have a good read of Guidance - Visitors (INF 2) .

Basically, provide your wedding certificate and proof that you are living together, plus evidence of your and her employment (if any) or other reasons you have to return. Also details of where you will be staying, and of your finances to show that you can afford the trip.

About the step-child. Does your wife have sole custody or the natural father's death certificate? If not, then she will need written permission from the father to take the child abroad.

All documents in Thai should be accompanied by certified English translations.

Thanks for the info Gu22.

I did say about my wifes marriage to Thai man, it was the Thai traditional ceremony, but i understand that he still has rights. He has only seen his daughter twice in 7-1/2 years, he came out of the woods just after our house was finished. He had never seen his daughter for 5 years before that.

From what you say it should be easy for me to get the Visa's, but he might be another matter if he has to be involved in some way.

I will keep my fingers crossed.

Info much appreciated
