Important update on the recent murder of a New Zealand National in Pattaya.

An important update now on the story we covered earlier this week regarding the apparent murder of Mr. Stephen Jeffrey Miller aged 40 from New Zealand. He was shot dead as he was riding his motorbike along Soi Petragoon in North Pattaya. The Police investigation into this high profile murder is now being overseen by the regions top Police Officer, Police Lieutenant General Jongrak who is the Police Commander for Region 2.

Inside Pattaya Police Station he chaired a meeting which was also attended by representatives from the New Zealand Embassy in Bangkok. In attendance were two of Mr. Miller’s wives, Khun Gintana and Khun Ann who are both assisting Police with their enquiries. It appears that Mr. Miller had four Thai wives. Three of the wives are now known to Police, Khun Gintana and Khun Ann who were at this meeting, Khun Mai, who did not attend and a fourth wife who has currently not been identified.

Initial information suggested that Mr. Miller was involved in a court case regarding land and property ownership with Khun Ann. At the meeting she confirmed this to be untrue and Police now tell us that the case relates to a fourth wife who is now being located. The Embassy revealed that Mr. Miller had a previous conviction for illegally taking steroids into New Zealand, but this case had already been cleared.

The Police General mentioned that some information cannot be released to the press at this time because it is an ongoing investigation, however they do know the shooter and his accomplice and an arrest is expected to take place shortly. Regarding possible motives for the shooting, Police have three theories which form the basis of their investigation.

1. The murder may be related to the steroid case in New Zealand.

2. It may be business related as Mr. Miller was active in the local property market.

3. It could relate to an ongoing court case with his 4th, as yet unidentified, wife

That’s all we have for now. We will bring any further updates to you when we receive them.

interesting to note that pattayas inspector clousseau has been replaced with region twos very own sherlock holmes , jongrak of the yard.

they must be taking this case a bit more seriously than other run of the mill ten a penny falang murders.

also interesting to note that they already know the identity of the killers.

amazing what can be done when heat from above is brought to bear down.

How on earth can one have an apparent murder?

Mr. Miller had a previous conviction for illegally taking steroids into New Zealand, but this case had already been cleared.

Being into gym training, it's quite possible that these were for personal use, and IMHO have no bearing on the case what so ever. However, it's nice to see that they have brought

Police Lieutenant General Jongrak in on the case. Hopefully a speedy arrest will follow.

Here we go, here we go, here we go......

Has there ever been a news story in Pattaya forum, that hasn't been speculated upon ad nauseum, and then , when we get the update (if we get an update) its all change - new information has put a different slant on the whole thing.

For my sins, I get the Pattaya Mail and Pattaya Today delivered. Virtually evey PCN news story that is posted on this forum is reported with substantially different facts and circumstances in one or both of these alternative publications. Sometimes the 3 versions are so at odds with each other that you think you are reading 3 different stories, except that the names quoted are the same.

So the previous thread on this unfortunate NZ guy was closed, presumably because some of the posts were in bad taste. But now we are told he had 4 wives and maybe did steroids (who can say if this is true?) so now it's Ok to joke about it, is it?

Don't get me wrong - I'm generally on the side of arguing and joking - that's what a forum is all about. But I guess there are some limits on joking and black humour, and incitement to commit or suport for those who commit crimes.

Maybe we can have some guidance on this, Mods?

Meanwhile - lets go back to the commenting on inaccurate and incomplete facts.... :D. Until its closed again... :o

Why would ANY one want 4 wives ? thats four mothers in laws and four extended families.

one is plenty for me (even if its a sex thing, I'd be surprised he could keep em all satisfied)

As for the 'steroid' thing, maybe he was using them, not really much point unless you are a REALLY serious body builder, but if he was a supplier, might be a new slant on it, but as it said 'its dealt with'

There again he might have pi**ed off one of the wives and her family, have to see how it pans out

Moby - Tragic death regardless of the what the actual story is. I'd find it hard to misreport the fact he had 4 wives? This is what seems to be odd about the story now.

Hey Brit, I wasn't having a go at you mate - I'm one of your staunchest supporters. ( I just have a mild dig at your cu't'n'pasting every now and then to keep you honest. :D )

In fact I'm glad you posted the update, as it got the topic opened again after it had been closed for God knows what reaason. :o

I was just commenting on the vagaries of the press reports, where the original story got everyone commenting in one direction, and then as soon as we knew he had 4 wives and had a steroid problem, we all change track with our comments and sympathies.

The next thing we know PCN will announce they got it all wrong and he didn't have any wives and it was another the guy with the steroid problem.

We can only comment on, and react to the the information presented - a little micrcosym on what happens all over the world every day. That's what makes life interesting. :D

Dramatic conclusion to the New Zealand murder case.

It appears that the recent case of murder involving the shooting of a New Zealand national has now come to its conclusion. Police Lieutenant General Jongrak, the Region 2 Commander of Police conducted this press conference and announced that the shooter had been located and his accomplice had been arrested along with one of Mr Millers' wives, Khun Gintana, who had been charged with conspiracy to murder.

Also in attendance at this press conference were members of Mr. Miller’s family from New Zealand including his wife, Mrs. Miller. A presentation of flowers to the General demonstrated their appreciation that the case had been solved in a speedy and professional manner.

The two men accused of conspiring to murder Mr. Miller are Khun Walatit aged 24 who is already in custody and Khun Yiamwoot aged 25 who is accused of shooting Mr. Miller. He is now thought to be in Sonkla Province in the South of Thailand and a warrant has already been issued for his arrest which is expected to take place soon He is also the boyfriend of Khun Gintana who although claimed to be married to Mr. Miller, we can confirm that they never signed a marriage certificate.

She was involved in an illegal steroid export business where the body enhancing drugs would be sold to other countries and the money would be sent to Khun Gintana’s Thai bank account. Mr. Miller confronted her just before the murder and a physical altercation took place as he demanded she hand over the money from the steroid sales.

Khun Gintana and her Thai boyfriend had formulated a plan to kill him and keep the money. Although the plan was successful Khun Gintana is now in custody and her boyfriend’s arrest is imminent. A fascinating conclusion to a horrific murder case.

Forgive me for being a bit dumb, but are they suggesting that Mr Miller was also involved in the illegal steroid export business and she was trying to rip him off, or did he uncover her illegal activities, and for some reason demand that she turn over her ill gotten gains?

Not very clear.. at least not to this feeble mind :o

Moby - yeah bit lost with that one too? Perhaps a translation problem... I'd assume what was meant - he confronted her about her illegal steroid business . But then again where the hel_l would she get contacts in that area of the world without her husband's involvement? :o And his prior history with steroids certainly doesnt bode well for that matter.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me. Can't see her exporting too much without farang involvement, and if he just stumbled upon her illegal business, why would he demand that she hand over the money?

Sounds like a regular little nest of vipers; wonder if he knew she had a Thai husband? Unlikely.

Then they fall out over the proceeds of their crimes.

Exporting steroids is not exactly at the top of the crime list. but the circumstances certainly mitigate our sympathies. However, no one deserves to be shot down in cold blood. rip.

Maybe a lesson there for other aspiring criminals :o

Thailand death a hit, police told

25.04.06

By Elizabeth Binning

A New Zealand man shot dead in Thailand was executed by hitmen on the orders of his former girlfriend, say Thai police.

Former Hawkes Bay man Stephen Miller was killed while riding his motorbike to the gym in the Thai city of Pattaya, about 150km south of Bangkok, on Thursday.

The 39-year-old's former girlfriend, Jintina Weechachai, has been arrested in connection with his murder.

Police reports made available yesterday to Thai media outlined a confession from Ms Weechachai.

The Thai woman is said to have admitted she hired two gunmen because she feared Mr Miller was going to leave her.

In her statement she said they dated for about five months but Mr Miller did not treat her well. She described him as a "butterfly" (promiscuous) and said he had tried to take back gifts he had given her, including a car and land.

A Thai acquaintance, who did not want to be identified, said Mr Miller had bought some land with Ms Weechachai and that they had planned to build a house on it.

The man said Mr Miller intended to amend his will so that the house would go to his surviving partner in the event of his death. It is not known if that happened before his murder.

Police reports say Ms Weechachai said she personally knew the gunmen she hired for the fatal hit. They were Woratip Gachatwong, 24 - who has been arrested - and Yeungyut Jurapong, 25, who is still on the run.

Ms Weechachai's description of Mr Miller as an uncaring boyfriend is at odds with the way former friends from New Zealand remember him.

Mr Miller was a well-known bodybuilder at the Sparta Health and Fitness Centre in Napier before leaving for Thailand several years ago.

A staff member, who did not want to be named, said news of Mr Miller's death had stunned many members at the centre.

"I have had the biggest, hardest- nosed bodybuilders in tears, everyone's pretty cut up about it," he said.

"He was a really, really nice guy, incredibly friendly. He was the nicest guy and would do anything for you."

Mr Miller is understood to have been living in Thailand for about five years, and last visited the centre in 2002. He also kept in regular contact with several other members and childhood friends, one of whom received an email from Mr Miller about an hour before he was killed.

Mr Miller's ex-wife, Megan Miller, who has flown to Thailand with some of Mr Miller's family, is said to be devastated by his death.

Despite their separation, friends say the pair had remained close and Ms Miller had visited Mr Miller in Thailand for holidays. They did not have any children together.

Thai media have reported that Mr Miller was shot in the head at close range, the bullet entering at the base of his ear. His body was found on the ground near his motorbike which was lying on its side with a bag containing identification details, gym membership and some boxing equipment. Police formally identified him from a New Zealand driver's licence.

Mr Miller is understood to have continued his bodybuilding in Thailand and also pursued Thai kickboxing, which he was "very passionate about".

It is understood a ceremony will be held in Thailand today and Mr Miller's ashes would be returned to New Zealand.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the two arrests

It may well have been his business and he was just using her Bank Account to recieve money, that way no fingers could be pointed at him in the case of any Police enquiries in his own country, it's quite common.

Thai women recieve money into their bank accounts from illegal operations overseas, they then get a percentage of the money which they could say was sent by a lovestruck Farang. On the other hand, a Farang with no visible means of support recieving large sums of money on a regular basis may well find he don't have any such story to tell.

Many Police Forces can freeze assets gained illegaly, so criminals use a 3rd Party to recieve money, then they recieve off of the 3rd party after paying a Commission to the reciever.

In the case of people who have already had convictions for certain crimes and may be under scrutiny, regular payments from overseas into the bank account is laying down a trail, for a small commission, this can be solved.

I have heard of people paying Thai women to open Bank Accounts with ATM access, the Card is then handed over to the Farang, she recieves a small ammount of money for her trouble, the Farang has an Account in a Thai womens name and an ATM card to access the funds. As long as they remain friends, no problems usually occur.

Update:

Thai gunman murders Kiwi on scooter

Two people arrested

A New Zealander living in Thailand has been shot dead while riding a scooter in the street.

Two people have been arrested over the death of Stephen Miller, but Thai police said the person who carried out the killing was still at large.

Several motives for murdering the former Waikanae man have been suggested in Thailand's media, including the possibility it was related to a previous conviction for importing steroids.

Mr Miller, 39, was killed last Thursday morning while travelling to a gym in the resort city of Pattaya, 150 kilometres south of Bangkok.

He worked in real estate and had lived in Thailand for three years.

Police identified Mr Miller from a New Zealand drivers' licence that he was carrying.

A Foreign Affairs Ministry spokeswoman said Thai police had arrested a man and a woman. A third person, believed to have carried out the shooting, was being sought.

Family members have flown to Thailand but it was not known when Mr Miller's body would be returned to New Zealand. The Millers have asked for their privacy to be respected in the meantime.

A Kiwi policeman based at the New Zealand embassy in Bangkok had met police officers investigating the killing.

The Pattaya City News said witnesses saw two men on a motorbike pull up next to Mr Miller before the passenger, who was wearing a hooded jacket, shot him in the head.

It reported Mr Miller had four Thai wives and that he had been embroiled in a court dispute with one of them over property ownership.

The resort town newspaper said Mr Miller also had a previous conviction for illegally taking steroids into New Zealand.

Police were investigating whether the murder was related to that case, to Mr Miller's links with the property market, or the court case with his fourth wife, whom police have yet to identify, its website reported.

Thai police could not be contacted for comment.

I can't believe the crap that Pattaya City News has reported about Steve's death, and how far from the truth the reports are.

Steve was a close personal friend of ours for the last 5 years and one of the few people you can honestly consider a "real friend". Some facts (as has been reported) I would like to clear up about Steve are:

1. His murder has no connection to steriod exportation or any business or land deals.

2. Steve has never been married to a thai (let alone having 4 thai wifes). Steve had been married once before to a NZ national, and although they divorced before he moved here - they remained best friends. His ex is currently here with some of his family and they are all devastated over his murder. He also had a good relationship with his previous girlfriend Ann who he was with for many years.

3. There is NO court case with an unidentified "4th wife". Come on think about it, if there was an ongoing court case happening that they wouldn't have the name of this so called "4th wife"?

4. Jintana is nothing but lying cold-blooded murdering whore who is now spreading lies about Steve to save her own ass. Steve had only been with her a few months and never married to her (which she has now admitted). She has been caught out lying many times during questioning by police. She has shown no remorse over her actions, even when confronted with Steves family during an interview.

5. Jintanas claims that Steve was uncaring and abusive are all bullocks. Was he a "butterfly"? Sure he was, but in this town most men are.

6. Jintana conspired with her thai boyfriend (that no one knew about) to murder Steve over money.

Contrary to reports that the money was profits from the sale of steroids is bullocks. There are bank records and other documented proof that 700,000 baht that was transferred into her bank account was money he received from the sale of land (that he had brought with his previous girlfriend Ann).

Why was the money transferred into her account? He was going to buy a house and thought it would be easier and less hassle/paperwork to have Jintana take out the loan with the bank in her name as she is thai.

7. The police have phone records showing that the day the money was transferred ito her account, she started making up to 20 calls/text messages to someone, who turned out to be her thai boyfriend, which is when they started the plan to get rid of Steve and to keep the money, not to mention his car. It was not a gift to her as she has stated.

Don't believe all that you read or hear in the media. Anyone who knew Steve knows the truth and knows who he was. Had Jintana decided to get rid of her phone and done a runner with the money and her boyfriend, Steve would've dealt with it and eventually laugh it off as a loss and bad judgement on his part (on his choice of girlfriend)......... He was that type of guy - always happy and nothing could get him down. Unfortunately for Steve and his loved ones, some piece of trash decided to have a man who was a good son, brother and friend to many killed in cold-blood.

The only consulation for all of us is that she has been caught, and hopefully will spend the rest of days rotting away in a thai prison.

Thanks for that MilitiaX,

I think we can all accept your version of the events absolutely, and my deepest sympathies go to Steve's ex wife and family. It was indeed a terrible crime and the perpetrators deserve the full force of the law.

I believe my previous posts on this thread highlighted the futility of commenting on inaccurate and incomplete information, and I even suggested that it would probably turn out that he didn't have 4 wives, and that the steroid thing was a 'red herring'.

I take no kudos for being correct, but I am pleased for Steve's family that it was so.

The press reports here are appalling! Is there nothing that can be done about them? They clearly create so much distress for the crime victim's families.

I for one will refrain from commenting on the details of serious crimes until it is clear that the facts are reasonably accurate.

Perhaps it is best to wait for PCN, the cutting edge of Pattaya journalism, to put us straight.

Breaking news peppered with indisputable facts, plus of course extensive follow up is their stamp... :o

Yes, Yes, we all know you disdain them, and never seem to get tired of telling us.

But methinks you complaineth too much. :D

All murderers lie about their circumstances after they get caught.

So I don't think a single person believed her.

And she accuses him of being a butterfly? She was the one with the boyfriend.

I don't even believe this.

If he trusted her with so much money, I doubt he was sleeping around on her.

With so many A-holes in Pattaya, it's even worse that this happened to a nice guy.

This woman is pure evil and the only good thing is, that she's equally stupid.

She deserves to rot in prison, then burn in hel_l.

I don't normally get involved in these threads but in this instance I will.

For those that don't know, I am Howard from PCN and when somebody who has only been a member of this board for minutes, comes on and says my report was crap, I feel I must respond.

MilitiaX, if you who you say you are, I am deeply sorry for the loss of your friend and to the family of Mr. Miller. This was a despicable act and I am glad that it has come to an apprently swift conclusion (even though the suspected shooter has not yet been caught yet). However, because you on this board using an anonymous username, I cannot be sure who you are. This is the nature of a chat forum and is one of the reasons why I don't normally get too involved in them, because most of the time you don't really know who you are speaking with.

I must begin by mentioning that the information contained in my reports on this murder are consistant with other news organisations. However, PCN is the only organisation that reproduces the stories on the internet as they happen, so many may not be aware of this. All our information is taken from actual Police reports and in an ongoing investigation, stories change and possible motives are suggested and sometimes discounted. In this case, it was claimed he had four wives. As I mentioned in the reports, no marraige certificates were present suggesting either "ceremonial marraiges" which are commonplace here in Thailand or Mr Miller may have called them his "Wives" in everyday conversations or the Police report may have been innacurate.

The so-called Court case was mentioned early on in the investigation and was once again taken from the Police Investigation reports. MilitiaX claims this to be untrue. Maybe this is the case or maybe he was unaware of any case taking place.

The allegations of Steroid traffiking were mentioned throughout the investigation and evidence of the steroids and how they would be packed for export was presented at the final press conference for everyone to see and according to the NZ Police he had a previous conviction for this. Once again this information was provided by the Thai Police. MilitiaX claims this to be untrue or maybe he is unaware of this taking place.

Whether Jintana is lying or not is up to the courts to decide and if she is convicted along with the other two men, I hope she rots in a dark, smelly prison cell for the rest of her life as I am sure we all hope.

I worked very closely with the New Zealand Police Unit attached to their Bangkok Embassy and provided them with pictures and information throughout the three days of investigation and helped with the initial identification of Mr Miller by providing a copy of his driving licence to the NZ Police.

I am not in the business of making stories up or even "sexing" stories up to get extra hits on my website or extra viewers on our TV show. There is sometimes too much inconsistency between the various organisations here in Pattaya and although sometimes, some information in our reports can be wrong, in the whole, we do get it right and I am proud of my journlaists who sometimes disagree with other local journalists on some aspects of stories because they know the information is not correct.

Moving on to other matters, Britmaveric reproduces my stories on the TV site with my blessing, however it angers me sometimes that some serious stories are often joked about by some who don't appreciate the seriousness of the case. I guess this is the nature of a chat forum. I ask you guys not to joke about death, serious injury or someones misfortune and don't judge them based on my report. That is not fair.

I think that's enough from me now. I don't come on this forum every day but will gladly answer any other questions this post may raise, but don't expect a speedy response.

Howard

Howard
