Here's a story that relates to a Steve Parkinson - Pattaya Mail (3-9 Sept. 2004)

Probably the same person.

Theft victim delivers swift justice

Englishman Steve Parkinson delivered swift justice to a 16-year-old thief after the youth and another man snatched his 5 baht-weight gold necklace. Parkinson gave chase on his Honda Phantom and rammed the pair near the Grand Hall market in Soi Bua Khao in the early hours of August 21.

Police arrived on the scene to find Parkinson detaining the young criminal in a headlock. Parkinson told police that the 16 year old, identified only as Wallop, and another man tore the gold chain from his neck as he was waiting to turn. Undeterred, Parkinson gave chase and rammed the pair on the bike. Officers searched the youth’s pocket to find the chain, complete with three Buddhist amulets, and took him to Soi 9 for questioning.

Back at the station, police brought in Mawee Kaewlue, 19, who was suspected to have taken part in the theft. However, Mawee said that the bike was his and that the 16 year old and an accomplice had stolen the bike at gunpoint. A quick check led officers to quickly remove Mawee’s handcuffs. They charged Wallop with two counts of theft and sent him to a holding cell pending judicial proceedings while police search for his accomplice.

Just a thought - but could this have been a revenge killing?

Matey boy gets out of jail and the first thing he does is shoot down the westerner who put him away for a couple of years. This is Thailand!

Sounds like too much of a coincidence. Let's hope the killer is caught and put bedhind bars (again, hopefully this time for good but I wouldn't be surprised to hear it was all the farangs fault for being in Thailand, without him being here it wouldn't have happened)

Anyway, driving around on a bike with a 5 baht gold chain around your neck is really stupid. Som nam nah.

madsere - not the point if he's wearing a 5bht gold chain. :o

Anyways I hope this isn't related to the previous incident. However seems as of recent its open season on farang. :D That being said still think the world of Pattaya and hopefully the MIB will get the bastards for this heinous crime.

Not wanting to start a Pattaya bashing thread at all, but have you travelled to any other parts of Thailand Brit?

I don't mind Pattaya too much, I think there's a lot going for it that is overlooked in favour of glamorising the seedy side of it, but to be honest its gotta be one of the shittier parts of Thailand to visit and live in. The crime there and news I read in this forum just seems to get worse and worse.

Ok, guys here is the story. It appears that it could well be related to the case from 2004. It is definetly the same man. I have sent this information to Police who are probably unaware of the case. Well done Bulmercke. I will run another update on tommorows show to highlight this connection for sure. Full credit to TV and Bulmercke will be given.

English man shot dead in, what appears to be, a random armed robbery in Pong sub-district.

At 4.30 am on Wednesday, Police Sub-Lieutenant Choosak from Pattaya Police Station was called to the front of the Jeab Mini-mart in Pong sub-district after receiving information of a foreign man who had been fatally shot at the location. Police arrived and inspected the body of Mr. Steven Parkinson aged 47 from England. Witnesses mentioned that a total of four shots were heard but it appears that only two hit the intended target. Mr. Parkinson sustained two gun shot wounds to his face.

Details of the shooting were provided by Khun Sujira aged 32 who works at a bar on Walking Street. She claims that Mr. Parkinson took her from the bar and the pair left South Pattaya on his motorbike, a Blue Honda Phantom. They made their way to Soi Siam Country Club in Central Pattaya and drove along the road towards Pong sub-district, some 3kms from the Sukumvit Road. Four Thai men on two motorbikes approached the pair from behind and one of the passengers produced a gun and ordered Mr. Parkinson to stop. He decided not to comply with the shooters instructions and the shooter expelled four shots.

The bike fell to the ground and Khun Sujira realized that Mr. Parkinson was dead. The four men restrained Khun Sujira at this point and stole items of value from her and the dead man including a mobile phone, 1,500 Baht in cash and a necklace and ring. A total of 20,000 Baht’s worth of items were stolen from the woman along with other undisclosed items stolen from Mr. Parkinson as he lie dead on the street.

Police Lieutenant General Jongrak, the Region 2 Commander of Police was called in to oversee this serious case, and early on Wednesday Morning he spoke with a friend of the dead man Mr. David Cettevell and Mr. Parkinson’s girlfriend, Khun Siripon aged 24 who mentioned that she was currently living in a hotel and not with Mr. Parkinson because of problems in their relationship. No financial problems or anything else which could suggest a motive for the attack was revealed by the pair.

The Police General believes this case was a random act of armed theft and the crime was not pre-meditated but Police will investigate all possibilities as they urgently hunt for the gang of four men who committed this horrific crime. The British Embassy in Bangkok are also conducting their own independent investigation into this case and if we receive any updates to this story we will bring them to you here on Pattaya City News.

If it looks like a pig, smells like a pig, sounds like a pig then, generally speaking, it's a pig.

Pattaya is what it is. No amount of " glossing " over by the devotees alters the fact that it is a mire and by wading through it some ordure is bound to stick.

It is unique in Thailand and nowhere else are you likely to encounter its combination of charms and lethality.
