  1. I seriously thought from the headline that you were talking about all those creeps who the first sentence they utter when you meet them is "I'm Sebastian, I went to Oxford, you know".
  2. I have to ask myself why would you come to Thailand from the US for a 'short holiday'. It's a million miles away, difficult to get go, changing planes and at least 20 time zones away. My first visit was a 'short visit'....17 hours from JFK direct on Thai Airways (they had such a flight then) stayed 6 nights and 17 hours or so back to JFK. Frankly it was a nightmare. No sleep with the jet lag for a the week I was in Thailand and the week I arrived back in the US.
  3. I'll stick to ICEs thanks, until they sort the fire problem, the range problem, the price problem, and the crap problem out of EVs. I read it costs 40% less labour to build an EV......no wonder the car companies want to sell them to us.
  4. 60,000....may as well get an elite visa or whatever it's called now.
  5. No there is no clarity. Nor will there ever be. The English translated law will be full of the usual mistakes, mis-spellings, and contradictions. Best policy (mine) is to become non resident for tax purposes until the situation clarifies. If you have other homes in different countries use them for a couple of years to make sure you spend less than 180 days here. By then the confusion may have cleared enough for you to make a sensible decision. This recommendation was from my US/Thai accountant, a specialty firm in Bangkok.
  6. Would you fly into a war zone for $1500? I wouldn't.
  7. Finding the dirtiest smelliest noodle shop in town and watching wifey gollop down the slop.
  8. I daren't say.....I might be the subject of criminal defamation.
  9. Move to France but remember to have the steering wheel put on the left hand side.
  10. Not Makita but a similar situation. I have a Leica camera and it needs a new battery. Lazada prices Leica originals at $80 each and I could buy two copies for about $40. Stupidly, I bought the copies.....they don't fit.
  11. Great name Terraplane, from Robert Johnson's epic.
  12. An accountant US/Thai told that SS is subject to a separate agreements d=signed in I think 1998. Only the US can tax social security here. MY SS is about 100K baht a month....not enough to live on, unless I want to eat bugs and drink goat piss.
  13. I'm definitely becoming a non resident for tax purposes. 179 days max. No transfers. I'm just guessing that it will be nigh on impossible to claim back extra taxes. All my income is from the US, and every penny of it is taxed, but knowing Thailand I find it difficult to believe than any withholding taxes on transfers will be willingly coughed up back to me and that claims will be subject not intense or impossible and variable paperwork. Better not to pay it in the first place.
  14. They've been ready for days, when are they actually going to get in the air, fly to Israel and bring our folks back home? This is taking longer to evacuate that Afghanistan, a by-word for incompetence.
  15. Og god no!!!!!! Another locally developed government commissioned app that won't work. The fun in Thailand never stops does it?
  16. Good, he should be paroled in a couple of weeks or so. And then he can be comfortable while he's sick. I shouldn't wonder that his condition improves markedly when he is released from prison, proving that he really was sick due to prison conditions.
  17. Better business strategies tend to have some long term sustainable advantage, preferably a unique advantage, with a high cost of entry for competitors. This strategy has none of the above. Digital nomads might come for a few months, then realise that Thailand is trying to tax them, then they'll move somewhere else.
  18. The Chinese are pretty easily spooked aren't they? Good job they are not fighting a war. Snowflakes.
  19. Nonsense. Israel's aim is and always has been land theft and Genocide.
  20. Why is it OK to say 'exterminate' Hamas Palestinians but not ok to say 'exterminate Israelis'.
  21. I swear Thailand gets more like the US every day.
  22. Bob, if you are British, and you haven't done so already, and wish to avoid taxes on your gifts to gf/wives since 1974, then you need to learn the difference between residence and domicile. People domiciled in the UK are liable to inheritance taxes on all of their worldwide estate. If you only have a small estate (including all gifts made sine 1974) then it doesn't matter. Check it out with a British qualified accountant.
  23. What could possibly go wrong. Can you not drink enough beer by 1am? Start at 11 am in the morning and drink till 1 am at night. Why should neighbours have to live with all the noise, fights and nonsense that goes along with clubs open after midnight?
