Shocking surge: Thai electricity tariffs set to spark debate
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This might change the equation for the value of solar power. But I would need battery storage for night use. -
I have a US SS pension of about 120,000 baht per month (depending on exchange rate) paid into Bangkok Bank here in Thailand. I file a US tax return each year and this is included as part of my income. I have become confused about what is going to happen in future and what is fake news and have decided this year (for the first time) to spend less than 180 days in Thailand in 2024 and future years and become non resident for tax purposes. Are you telling me here that the maximum deduction for pension is 100,000 per year? That's of no use to me at all. I have been informed on ASEAN and by Bangkok based tax consultants that Thailand have no right to tax my US SS pension under the DTA? If Thailand is able and does tax my SS payment, I will have to take a deduction against my US taxes. I cannot imagine what a recording and accounting head he this will present, not to say, raising likelihood of a US tax audit. My priority is simplicity and avoiding tax accounting nightmares. I have no desire to negotiate my annual tax bill with someone resembling an immigration officer. Being out of Thailand for 186 or so days a year is inconvenient, but an inconvenience I am willing to endure to legally arrange my affairs to avoid paying taxes in Thailand.

Thailand’s EV 3.0 policy faces major oversupply challenges
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It's called comparative advantage and you don't hear about it much these days, but the Chinese have a number of advantages that allow them to produce vehicles cheaper and of higher quality than the <deleted>e you get from Europe or US. Better watch out because some Chinese companies are emulating the Japanese and not the grey haired white men on the board rooms of US/EU companies. -

Are you saying the Chinese can't change? Think back to what the world call cheap crap Japanese motorbikes and cars in the 70s and early 80s. -
Thailand's Cash Handouts: A Future Financial Pitfall?
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Sustainable, the key word. And no, cash payments to citizens when you have to borrow the money to do it are not sustainable. Plus the higher you drive growth this year, the bigger the targets you have to set and meet next year. It's a fool's errand. -
Some comment from that unbiased source, as fresh and clean as a mountain stream. It's not even that I agree with Aditya..... https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/11/landslide-election-labour-tories-disarray

Actually if you read my post very carefully, nowhere in it did I even suggest, mention, allude to you being responsible for setting up the laws or rules. One is just a look at the data, which doesn't not support the breathlessly hyperbolic headlines. My other beef is with the UK calling itself a democratic country, a representative democratic country to distinguish it from a real democracy. The democracy on offer in the UK (and US) is bought and paid for by lobbyists, businesses and wealthy donors. Then Parliament's objectives are to service their masters, not to do what is best for Britain, not to make sure British citizens have a job, a home and have enough food.....they are there merely to make the rich richer. End of story. Edit, Nick Carter....I have you on ignore because I have found your comment to be inane and childish in the past.

You do know that Labour captured less votes that in the last election when Corbyn was Labour leader.....and that Corbyn's total was the lowest votes Labour have had in any General election ever? And that the swing to Labour was only 1.7%....and that it is only the UK's totally undemocratic election that meant that Reform got over 4 million vote and 5 seats.....and that Lib Dems got under 4 million votes ands 71 seats. The people have no representation and Labour actually has no mandate despite a screaming headline win....no landslide at all.

bidens migrant crisis will cost him his Election
retarius replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
The migrant crisis is a low level issue in the election. Not many voters are motivated by it. -
IS it different than any western country? Go live in America and witness the worship of money and things there....it's called consumerism and it is the culture the US exported to all the mugs in the western world. Don't blame Thais, they are a poor imitation of the US and the west.

Why isn’t the media reporting on Trump’s growing dementia?
retarius replied to simple1's topic in Political Soapbox
Dementia usually comes on slowly.....first it is misplacing your keys, next ordering a nuke strike on Russia....Biden is at quite an early stage still and not much has changed in his dementia in the past two weeks since the debate. -

Thailand Added To Human Rights Watchlist By International NGO
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Never trust NGOs, they do what the folk that pay them want. If the UK wants Thailand listed, and they are the major funder of Civitus Monitor they CV will gladly put Thailand on the list. What has changed in the past year....oh we had elections didn't we and are no longer ruled by a military junta. -
I think reasonable people can agree that drug users filling up prisons is a stupid idea by politicians. If you take so much fentanyl that you die, tough luck for you. Drug suppliers, dealers and manufacturers are another issue. In the US the fentanyl epidemic was started not by drug dealers, but by venal doctors and pharmacists, solid, admired and rich members of the Appalachian community, egged on by pretty salespeople from the Sackler family. In my world view, the doctors and pharmacists should be the ones going to jail for this epidemic, they wrote the fraudulent Rxs and fulfilled the prescriptions, and benefited financially. So the medical community generated the whole Fentanyl crisis, not drug dealers, Chinese, Mexicans or they created 100s of thousands of addicts and when the medical supply was crimped, by official and political action, the addicts were still there, a ready market for illegal fentanyl, and where there is demand it will be satisfied by those seeking to profit.

What are they? Restraints? She looks attractive, maybe into some buds. A bit silly leaving the 'tools of the trade' hanging up on the wall. At least she should get off the charge of being a hairdresser. Is prostitution a protected occupation? The cops don't seem to have noticed the stuff on the wall, perhaps it is actually a good hiding place.....I know our maid cannot see anything at all above eye level and she's very short.
