  1. I visit CM, too, and it's definitely has a good people's 'atmosphere' to it and a city with lots to-do and places to go.

There is the infamous, 'Night Bazaar' and 'the' must visit, 'Doi Su Thep' - though you can better enjoy the latter after the New Year's crowds have left.

There is also a few tips at these links:

    http://www.visitchiangmai.com.au/markets.html

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/690240-parking-options-for-out-of-towner-appt-at-us-consulate/

You will need a light jacket for some of these chillier-than-normal evenings.

    Enjoy your visit!

If current conditions keep up make that a heavy jacket.

  2. Nibbles you might be a nice bloke but when they handed out brains I'm sure you joined the free booze queue.

Whether that was by choice or an accident I am not sure.

Well I do have an IQ of 135 so I think I can safely say I wasn't in the free booze queue. That puts me well in the top 1% not that it counts for that much really, however it does say that I am within the category typical of doctorates with the ability to understand complex theories.

Of course you are not going to deny WW1 or what triggered it?

If people are capable of shooting at the likes of The Pope, John Lennon, Bob Marley and Gandhi, relatively men of peace and not exactly to be confused with hate figures. Then compare it with someone who is clearly hated by millions. So what exactly would you consider 'brainless'??

Sorry Nibbles I am guilty of imbibing in what I accused you lining up for.

Reading through the thread I was pissed off by the various posters that proffered up one sided arguments to support their their favourite combatant.

None of these people have a clue as to what is happening here. unless of course they are Thai, and it irks me to read opinions offered up by by people who are unqualified to make them.

What actually happened is that I replied to the wrong person by mistake.

  3. had to have paperwork certified by the Australian consulate just a few weeks ago, Bangkok was the only way to do it, they will site the original then certify a photocopy for you which is acceptable but make sure you do not need a translated version as well, they hit me with that after I had done everything else immigration wanted me too do and have to wait another week now as the translation mob are "extremely" busy.

Many documents for Australian use do not have too be certified by the embassy. They can be certified by any Austrailian who has a wide variety of occupations.

Aust Fed Police. Talk to the consul in Sansai.

  4. Whee!

Previously they were not due to give a verdict before several months. The fact that they have chosen to rush the verdict is a potent indicator of things to come, and the rest of the article makes it even more obvious which side the NACC is on. The repeat of 2008 is coming.

With 95% accuracy I can predict:

    - 312 MPS lose their seat on December 13, making the House essentially empty except for Chuwit

    - A wise and benevolent caretaker government is appointed ostensibly under Article 7 (But actually by the military).

    - 2014 elections are delayed until 2016 for various bullshit reasons

    - More Red shirts get killed, nobody cares.

    - Everyone lives happily ever after, free from the evils of Thaksinism, corruption, and democracy.

    Chuwit has resigned from parliament.

  5. Don't buy a salt-chlorinated pool unless you have swum in one and are sure the effect is nicer than swimming in a non salt-chlorinated one (or that other effects of using salt water chlorination justify the expense).

Don't trust the BS that vendors put out that result in you believing that you will not be able to tell that salt is involved. 90% of the village kids that use my salt water chlorinated pool complain that it is "chem" (salty) and stings their eyes. [it is only at the recommended 3,000 ppm per salt test strips and a saline meter]. Come to that, I complain that it is chem! I prefer the convenience of salt (less frequent dosing) but the user reaction plus the higher cost will probably cause me to return to manual chlorination if and when the chlorination cell fails.

I believe that 'Hurlcon' is a parallel brand to 'Astral Pool' and both brands use the same equipment. I have an Astral Pool salt chlorination set-up (pump, filter and multi-valves too). Apart from the salty water it works fine in maintaining a reasonably stable chlorine level. I maintain at about 1.2 but you can alter production levels to suit your preference. I find that chlorine levels do change slightly depending on salt levels and water temperature, so I do change the production levels slightly every so often

Eyes stinging is the because chloramines have formed in the pool water.

A combination of body fluid. pee sweat saliva etc, plus chlorine equals chloramine.

Symptoms of the presence of chloramines are

    chlorine smell

    eyes stinging

    high reading of chlorine test

    Chloramine removal;

oxidation with calcium hypochloride or baking powder or sodium bicarbonate or any other subatance that will give off oxygen when combined with water.

Chlorine in water will not sting your eyes

The only other cause of eyes sting is a high or low ph level.

ps the ph of the eye is 7.4

  6. Basically getting a OAP and taking it OS is easy providing you have the working life period clause. But there is a bit of work involved.

I have spoken to quite a few expats here about the same subject and I get the answers

    no the rules have changed

    centrelink said

    it's different no

    won't work

or they wouldn't do what I suggested

What it involves is going right through the processing and the appeals process until you get to the

Administrative Appeals Tribunal. If you have done your homework and have your story ready; when you get the initial phone call

the tribunal you tell them your story and they should reconsider and grant you unlimited portability.

If you have good story (mine was that it didn;t apply to me) they will cave in because they don;t want to go to the OAM in case they lose.

  7. What all westerners don;t take into consideration is the Thai culture system of reward of favours. I forget the word for it but it goes something like this;

If some one does me a favour then I am in that persons debt and I will do every thing that I can to repay or over repay that debt.

How do you think that Mr T got his satellite? From favours he had performed for people in power.

Why do the police favour PP? MrT promoted a relative to the top post.

It is all about favour for favour.

Irrespective of what a persons personal philosophy is a favour debt takes precedence.

Suthep knows what is/was happening and now has had enough of the political dogfight.

He is pointing out what is wrong with the Thai political scene and being an ex politician he is in the best position to right that wrong. Or at least show the way even at personal cost.

He has nothing to gain, personally, by his stand and I say good on him for doing what he is doing.

Just maybe ha has a conscience after all..

  8. I built pools for 30 years in OZ.

Location of skimmer box should be the furthermost place possible from the return to pool inlet. Prevailing winds should also be taken into consideration in placement. You should also consider having a filter inlet at the bottom of the pool for better water distribution and ease of cleaning.

The Thais are keen on water equalisation tanks because olympic size pools have them. Resist this at all costs they are a source of leaks.

There are many good reasons not to have salt water chlorination.

Under water lights are good at first but when they burn out they cause problems and TIT.

Thai swimpool people have no idea re pool maintenance and water treatment; same as anywhere else, the soundness of advice is inversely proportional to the profit they are making.

Oh and make sure the only chlorine that goes into your pool is calcium or sodium chloride. Any thing else will eventually make your pool green.

  9. Sounds like a cracked molar, very common as you get older. Once the crack gets big enough the nerve will die and you'll need a root canal.

You don't do root canal if the nerve is dead. The purpose of the root canal is to kill all the nerve if it is not already.

Not 100% correct, the root canal also cleans out the nerve channel in the root to prevent regrowth and in the interests of hygene also, before the post is fitted. So yes, the primary purpose is to kill the nerve but there are other reasosn why it must be done.

    Stops your tooth going black.
