  1. It has been going on a very long time already.... money smooths the rough waters. Although I can understand people being concerned... they are living here under false pretenses and are complicit in that deception, maybe one could say fraud! I use an agent too, but simply out of laziness as I keep the 800k in a fixed deposit untouched... but I could be pulled under if one day they get serious about purging this trickery.
  2. My sister, recovering now, waited about 7-8 months.
  3. Au contraire..... When those requirements came in, it was dressed up to look like a move to stop people bypassing the prior requirements....ie the 800k 2 minute deposits! In reality, it pushed more people into using the agent's facilitations, and immigration welcomed it all with open arms. Quite the business move I thought at the time.
  4. Soi 6 I suspect.
  5. I recall being in an agents office waiting my turn, and an Oz couple there were asking about the process, and for the Conversion to Non-Imm-O Permission, and a 1 year retirement extension (he did not have the 800k sitting pretty) and was quoted at 45,000 baht for one. Perhaps a Re-entry was thrown in, but I recall suppressing a coughing fit.
  6. The beach rd katoeys await your arrival.....
  7. You only really need to show one if you need a Cert of Residence, and I had not needed one of those for some years....nor needed a re-entry permit, and 90 days reports I do online. I used to hold my breath doing my extension myself ( TM30 not asked for)...but last year, even that I used an agent.... not asked for of course. I got a deal (agent) sorting my TM30 and getting a COR for 2000 baht....
  8. There was actually no police order requiring Expats came back after 3 months to show they had kept their money. Jomtien and one or two offices came up with the need to fit in with the fact they should. Often wondered if someone came in and had spent the money after a few days, would they cancel the extension there and then and possibly put them into overstay! Rumour is your bankbook needs to show a full year to see if you complied with the 800/400/800 kbaht for the 3/7/2 months of the prior year... It's a complex concept!
  9. Take the Reung Ruen bus from North Rd to Ekamai (or get off before ) then get on the Skytrain. An alternative is go to Moechit but is Ekamai more frequent, The minibus drivers are reckless and the journey cramped and uncomfortable.
  10. An issue with early application for retirement extension is it would be difficult to show the 2 month seasoned 800k . If an agent does it, it appears anything is possible. I just used one to do my TM30, my first one ever, after 18 years here.
  11. Yes a month before is 'standard' maximum. ......although if you have some reason to do it sooner, and can show proof, like a flight ticket, I heard 45 days can be done. Don't go getting a re-entry permit based on old Extension, and then doing a new Extension.
  12. Did you have to leave the country and start again, or was this simply achieved by an agent? I did hear rumour it could be done...
  13. You write it here, and it will happen!
  14. Considering the amount Thailand exports (7.6 billion tonnes last year) I would hope the impact on Thai prices to be minimal.
  15. A coalition of the losers will be running the country!
  16. It should not be a big deal with the new improved Pattaya immigration building, How about getting a tourist visa before travel? I have herd the online process is a bit onerous.
  17. It is simply a single step down, or perhaps stepping stone towards the usual woke response of stemming discourse, playing the 'racist' card!
  18. Have to see what the new Elite offerings are like..... refreshed ones coming out I think in October.
  19. It isn't so easy really. They would have to do some things bad for the economy ... like make a mess of producing a government after elections. Mr Soros watches looking for opportunities!
  20. Yes, I topped the pool up with a hose pipe yesterday so it should be along soon!
  21. He won't leave behind the lucrative load to chase after you for 10 baht. unless you have insulted or angered him. But what you suggest is safer!
  22. I aways thought one was safe in Thailand and the Far East in a Rolex as so many fakes were about!
  23. And more power to us real members!
