Yes that approximates to how my life has panned out. Wife makes nearly daily trips to the nearby wet market on her motorcycle. I do a once a week shop in town, using the car for non-food items and some farang foodstuffs. I take a cold box and stuff goes in there to stay fresh while I may partake of some other diversions.

I have been using a fixed deposit for my retirement extension for many many years now. I am not aware that any change was required. I can take money out of this account at any time and simply forfeit interest. I suspect you were misinformed, perhaps by an immigration official, they get it wrong often. As an aside, domestic foreign currency deposit accounts also qualify.
