  1. Jomtien actually, where it is a bit quieter!
  2. It's a bit worrying, we have more of these incidents and a lot of organized crime where Chinese are behind it. The liberal Visa Exempt (and easier long term Visas) is having its effect and changing the place a lot, not for the good either.
  3. Oh not sure,,,,, usually it is Russians, but these days the Oz guys seem to dress this way. The peak gets put to the back when a guy mean business!
  4. So who were those guys packing the bars during high season?
  5. It is a long time now, but I always recall after I paid bar once, the girl was hanging around the next day and informed be that as I paid bar well after midnight, she was off work all that day.
  6. They seem to be able to muster up an infinite amount of patrol cars and manpower when a VIP passes though on the roads.
  7. A long bladed one you often see brandished by Thais in their original type costume, or performing cultural displays. Not something to have handy for the wife to pick up in my mind.
  8. There are many with high self esteem too judging by prices being asked!
  9. Hahah, yes, he has been waiting all night outside the hotel entrance to get his money...the local equivalent of the Scots wife at the factory gates on Friday after work!
  10. In some instances, I get the impression they deliberately mislead you, so as to get that extra 300 baht.
  11. And that is why he was carrying a gun, with bullets, and according to another article, a knife too.
  12. In the early Thailand days, there weren't safes in the rooms, the choice was using one behind reception, or an envelope in the hotel safe. In the latter case, we had a lot of missing items in the morning, one being the night shift receptionist. I have recollections of a locked bag in a locked suitcase, secured to an immovable object with a computer cable lock! The Lek Hotel had safes with some fancy magnetic key, but you needed to hide that before fun and games and passing out!
  13. Also known as 'Rambo' by the sound of things.
  14. I was wondering where they might be dumping it.
  15. I usually put so much money in it, it is near impossible to get it out of the rear back pocket!
  16. Sounds more like an old Keystone Cops movie........
  17. They are trying to be non-comital in the original post. I am left thinking the guy had consumed a good few drinks and was having a paid for gay encounter.
  18. Usually when I pay them for me!
  19. I had a pal come visit a few times who was more than willing to hang around for several hours to save on a bus, rather than pay for a taxi or a cheap room. If anything, Pattaya is heading towards, and catering for that type of customer more so.
  20. Sadly so true.... I really don't want Thailand to do the same.
  21. Dunno, the 3 wheelers are substantially quieter!
  22. They pull into the NGV station there for a toilet break... prior to that route, used to be it was down sometimes Hwy 7 branch, on to Laem Chabang, and then a few drop offs on Sukhunvit, like Rong Po Market. Not speaking the language well enough I am never sure which way they go and I need to get dropped off somewhere near Rong Po.
  23. I agree with that sentiment, the last few times I have used them I have been pleased that the driver was an older man who seemed to drive at reasonable speeds. I guess he was caught in the very heavy rainstorms we were having yesterday in the area.
  24. It sure did...... some of the flood measures, which have rendered the road surfaces dodgy enough when dry, were masked by floodwater too! Stuck on the Railway line bypass dripping at the 7-11 for an hour!
