  1. A few years ago Khao San Rd was thought of by the authorities as a crappy area for cheap backpackers who were no good cos they didnt spend lots of money ( In fact a lot of them do ) Now they are calling it a top tourist destination !! Also they want to encourage Chinese tourists. It wasnt long ago that they wanted to stop Chinese tourists coming on package tours cos they didnt spend much money. How perceptions change when you are desperate for tourists. TAT always talks crap !

  2. The same thing happened near where I used to work back in Essex. The warning beeper didnt work and the bed raised up unknown to the driver. He hit a pedestrian bridge and lifted it off the pillars. It wasnt bolted down !! The whole lot dropped on his cab squashing him. An ex friend who was a copper had to go in the cab to confirm if he was dead or not. He assured them he was as his head was under the seat ! He spewed his ring and crawled out covered in puke and blood much to the amusement of the other police, who didnt like him either. Because of this accident there were changes in the safety laws.

  3. And I caught a (foreign) guy trying to lift my wallet at a crowded market in Pattaya a few weeks ago (posted in a different thread). Got to watch carefully, as they sometimes operate in pairs and probably have "contingency" plans in case things go wrong.

Not surprised you got targetted. Anybody seen with a wallet is an instant easy target. Only an idiot would carry a wallet, presumably in your back pocket, and then wonder why it gets nicked. In Thailand you should carry money in shorts with several zipped pockets and spread the cash around the pockets. No pickpocket will touch you. And yes, the good ones always work in groups of at least 3 people. The stolen item is moved quickly away and you will never know. When I was in India some of the boys showed me how they steal from tourists and I can assure you they are very good and fast. You will never stop a woman from carrying a hand bag with lots of goodies inside. They are the best to steal from.

  4. speaking to many thais on the street ... they all have the same opinion regarding these mass rallies ...

Everyone has had enough and they just want to get back to a normal life where there is no such thing as red shirts or yellow shirts.

They say it's time for the Yingluck government to go and stop all the thaksin corruption.

Maybe they should go out and protest !! Otherwise it will never happen.

  5. When i did one of the ''Beach Clean Ups'' he came to say ''Thank You'' which i thought was nice of him, I felt it let him see that not all ''Farangs'' are beer drinking womanisers.....and that some of us do care about the Environment and the place where we live..

Beach clean ups are probably the only time a foreigner wont get busted for not having a work visa ! " This is work a Thai person could do, you are taking away their jobs " This the normal crap excuse we hear, but not in this case. Thais never care about a clean beach or water. Thanks to all the people that DO care.

  6. When we go to Phuket I always rent a car at the airport from Nine Car Rent. Check website and phone them or email first. A Honda Jazz is 900 Baht a day. Why would you want to use a Taxi or tuk tuk ? Never had a problem with driving on the island Well, only the idiots who like to overtake in silly places. Just drive carefully and dont take the car out at night to Patong or if you are going to drink. Insurance will be invalid in an accident if you are drunk. We stay in Kata and there is plenty to do at night there so dont need transport.

  7. Get a g/f from Isaan, invite her family over, and they'll be BBQ before you can say 'spicy buffalo wing sauce'.

Thats exactly how they got rid of all the snakes in Cobra Swamp, site of the new airport. The Isaan men cleared them out in no time and had some good food too !

  8. In England we used to shoot and eat pigeons, very tasty, so that is solution No 1. Get some life size posters of birds of prey made up and get them laminated and then put them in various positions so the pigeons will see them. Solution No 2. Pigeons are a worldwide problem as are seagulls, starlings and sparrows. When seagulls first arrived in Thailand many years ago in Samut Prakhan, I went to the coast one day and saw that Thai people were buying food to feed the bloody things. I told them that they would eat all the crabs and seafood but they didnt care cos they thought they were pretty !!!!!! Best of luck !

  9. I fly gliders and ultralights and there is no way I would ever fly that piece of rubbish ! I bet it hasnt even got a Certificate of Airworthiness from any decent country. It even looks like an accident waiting to happen. As another member stated the C of G is probably in the wrong place and as for aerodynamics !! Well it probably doesnt have any ! High wing loading, overweight and pathetic glide ratio, a Death trap. Who actually sells these things ??
