  1. Hi

I think you`ll do OK on the budget you`ve mentioned.

Just to give a couple of examples of apartments you could find, both in naklua( northern pattaya), there is Noble House, on soi 12 naklua, about 2 years old, nice clean furnished rooms at about 5.5 K baht a month( 4.5 K baht a month if you choose ground floor)

Air-con, hot water, key card entry, night time security, a Family Mart general store open 24/7 less than a minute away.

No swimming pool, no fitness centre, it`s about a 10 minute walk from the main naklua road from where you can catch a bahtbus to get about from( or use your scooter of course)

    wifi included.

Vela Casa, similar area and less than 1 minute walk from the main naklua road.

From 6K baht a month, has a swimming pool and has a fitness centre, nice rooms.

They did however ask a ridiculous 999 bhat a month extra for internet but you could sort your own connection out or use an air card.

I`ve viewed both but have not stayed at either.

Both would add on extra for water and electricity( and room cleaning)

I do live elsewhere in naklua and find it a pleasant base, not difficult to get about from and there are some reasonably priced rooms/apartments here.

As of course there is elsewhere in Pattaya, just happens that naklua appealed to me.

I`ve contact numbers for the 2 places I`ve mentioned if a google search doesn`t provide you with them.

Shame you relationship has not worked out.

  2. Hi

Best supermarket at the Dolphin roundabout, north pattaya/naklua had some as of a few days ago.

Villa also had some last week.

Janes at new Plaza used to sell it but not been there for several months so don`t know if still do.

  3. Try bell travel

    http://www.belltrave...s/PageHome.aspx

From Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya city with 6 coach departure times: 08:00/10:00/12:00/14:00/16:00/18:00

actually I guess you might be arriving after their last shared bus.

    the rate is 230thb/person

I heard you now have to pre-pay. Do you know if that is only by credit card? I guess that's why the 30 baht price hike: to pay the Visa/Mastercard tax.

But anyway, are other forms of payment possible, or -even better- paying in cash when boarding the bus?

I've taken this bus dozens of times over the past few years and it's great, but paying by credit card is not an option for me.

(Can't leave any traces or loose ends that show I'm going to Pattaya.) Does anyone know what shows up on the credit card statement?

    Hi

I didn`t pre book Bell bus, turned up at counter, paid 200 baht cash, got on bus.

6th November this year, maybe gone up since, no idea.

Excellent service as usual, not even half full.

  4. hi garyuk its me again as i live in los.i can recommend your gf.gets an international calling card,[cat phonenet] cost to phone the uk.1bht per min.

    Hi

I live in Thailand and sometimes call the UK, using my AIS number and prefixing 005 but I pay 7 baht a minute I think.

Any more info on this calling card as 1 baht a minute would be much better.

Where can I buy it( Family Marts/7/11s ? ) and how does it work pls?

    Thanks.smile.png

  5. Hi

There`s usually some rooms available on soi 27 naklua within your price range.

Air con, TV cable, some with internet some not.

A couple also on adjoining soi 25.

It is under 10 minutes walk to Wong Amat beach, although there are bars, restaurants and nightlife here, for more central Pattaya you would need to take a bahtbus, about 10 minutes and 10 baht.

  6. 3 hours plus a day (mostly reading the Topics, which some are quite long threads),I look upon time spent on TV and my Computer as Brain Exercise. Only this week it has been reported in the English Press that one of the best ways to fight off Altzeimers Disease,is to keep mentally active. which IMO Television doesn't have the same effect.

There is also the added advantage of keeping up with Knowledge of English,i'm sure those that live in villages long term, with no one but Thais to converse with, may have noticed their command of the English language, and spelling is not as sharp as it used to be?

I ticked the 1/2 - 1 hour box but agree with the above, much prefer reading subjects of interest on the internet rather than watching television.

  7. Hi

I`m not in Issan but in Pattaya currently using the AIS 3 G service, dongle/air card connected to laptop.

I use it as a back up for when the provided internet service fails, as it has done.

For reading, e.g. this forum, general news sites etc. it seems OK to me.

The air card, a 7.2 Mbps AIS model cost me approx 1500 baht, I notice though that it is now on sale at Family Marts for 990 baht.

I buy 1 GB data useage at a time, cost I think 350 baht, vaildity a month, there are various packages including monthly.

I don`t use Skype but it has been fine for general browsing.

I don`t know what sort of signal strength would be available where your wife`s parents home is nor what would be the best mobile provider but have found it a handy thing to have.

  8. 6000 baht one-way. Yeah, very uncompetitive when you consider you can fly to Cambodia and back for less than that. For me it seemed ridiculous, especially as I live in CM. I'm simply not prepared to pay 15 - 16,000 baht to fly to Vientiane and back.

Out of interest what does it cost to fly Bkk to Udon ?

    Hi

It cost me approx 1700 baht 1 way when I went, using Air Asia, booked fairly close to trip date( within 1 week)

That suited my plans as although I was on the way to Vientiane, wanted a couple of nights in Udon as had never been there before and had time to spare.

  9. I take it for long haul flights.

I traveled from BKK to LON with a few( 8 tablets) a couple of months back, took 4 on the flight, the other 4 were in my hold baggage for return.

Last year I had a prescription from a Thai doctor/clinic, and traveled with that, again small qty.

    This year no prescription.

I`ve had prescriptions for them in the past from a UK doctor for long distance travel purpose, not been a problem.

They work for me although may try one of the other alternatives mentioned on this thread in future.

  10. Hi

The doctor at Loma clinic might do it, a few metres past Antons( Antons on your right, cross the soi 27 junction and it`s just on your right)

Well, thanks again. I went there yesterday at about 10:`15am. No other patients at the time - 10 minutes, 100 baht and I was out of there. Since I only need an injection once a month, little incentive to do it myself.

Thanks. I`m glad the info was of use.

I`ve used the place a few times over the years and found it to be OK on both price and service.
