  1. afaik you can't actually do much via ADB without root/SU, but it's been a very long time since I've rooted a phone and I've forgotten all the steps.
  2. oh, that's what "bikies" means in Australia, the one percenters or OMCG: Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. at least that's what I learnt growing up. I first heard about how awful these people are when the news of the Milperra bikie massacre in 1984.
  3. just being a bikie is sufficient grounds for immediate deportation. send him back to NZ and let them seem with him. ABAB.
  4. I reckon their system is broken. again. I specifically chose a reason that was NOT 'long term stay' but in both cases the funds went received until 2pm next business day AND they show as International Funds Transfer. no biggie for me but obviously a massive issue if you're doing the income method.
  5. android root dir. unrooted phone so I cannot "mount r/w"
  6. it means that you modify the phone in order to obtain read/write access to the root directory, or / in Android/Linux terminology. the attached screenshot shows what the root directory looks like. if you can obtain "superuser" access to all of the files contained therein you can essentially do what you want with your phone. eh. remove all unwanted apps and the associated file repositories. for whatever reasons, Google and the phone manufacturers don't want you to delete the junk they ship with the phone. for cheaper phones this means the precious storage space is taken up by garbage that discerning users neither need nor want. rooting a phone is a term that describes various methods of circumventing the security measures that Google and the phone manufacturers put in place to stop you messing around with the system files. in theory this restriction is a good idea because it safeguards the user against malicious apps etc. or just messing around with the system configuration files and bricking the device. in practice it's a right royal PITA because you can't get rid of the dozens of unnecessary apps that they load the phone with. you also can't add a whole bunch of really cool third-party features that the dev community comes up with. their creativity knows no bounds, unlike the shortsighted Google and their telco lapdogs ????
  7. thanks but I understand all of that. @BritTimhas answered my question about the mechanics of the "poof from abroad" rule.
  8. right, so you're the Jon Snow of Android phones ????
  9. yes they do, 15 baht. outrageous! you can avoid this fee by using the ATM's cardless cash function and the Bualuang mBanking app.
  10. well then, you have absolutely no idea what the OP is talking about. do you even know what bloatware is?
  11. why so you say that? is rooting not a "thing" for cheap phones? I stopped rooting my phones because a lot of critical apps wouldn't run on them despite using Root Cloak et al. banks etc don't normally support rooted devices. p'raps the OP could ask the question on xda-developers as that's the hub of rooting knowledge. not all devices are supported, you need devs that support the model and supply the necessary files etc
  12. there's too many dropkicks over here so after a while I guess it becomes easy to tar all farang with the same brush. I don't really like meeting new white boys here because you never know what sort of insanity is going to come spewing out at any given time ????
  13. I love Thailand but they are woeful with seafood. they could learn a thing or two from their southern neighbours and get some proper ikan bakar going.
  14. but you already said yes, ie. the Vientiane route. OP didnt say that he wants to do it in-country, just that he doesn't want to use bank transfer method.
  15. yes, so why the scaremongering? OP seems to already be aware of the cash import rules. and as you pointed out he can deposit funds at presumably preferential exchange rate then go to Vientiane for the non-O. or maybe 2 X 45+30 visa exempts, would that work? the forex fees on US$30k might be enough to cover the expense of a border bounce at wherever is nearest to Phuket.
  16. but he's not intending to bring in more than $10k at a time so he doesn't have to worry about declaring it ????
  17. you watch too many movies. how is anyone going to know that the OP has a chunk of change in his bumbag?
  18. riddle me this Batman ... what are green plates and blue plates? I've seen these a few times on vehicles that rock up to my condo. the blue plate was on a BMW 745 that looked like it was a limo of some sort. it had a low number on the plate, single digit iirc. plus a wee flagpole on the front left of the vehicle but it wasn't flying any flag. a diplomatic vehicle maybe? or a super-expensive Bolt? ????
  19. your posts have too many ells and esses to be taken at all seriously.
  20. yeah not that smart at all but it was still pretty cool. I wish I had the skill and the guys to try that at least once. my only thrill is Lumphini to the KSR on the back of a Bolt taxi motosai. although I did a long trip to Central Bang Na the other week on the back of an electric scooter whilst it was threatening to rain. driver went the back way to avoid the Suk and I got to see the butt-end of Bangkok. it was quite the adventure. p'raps our Canadian buddy should have started off the main roads eh?
  21. looks fine to me. I think you should see someone about your paranoia, Thailand ain't the place to be carrying around such baggage. be cautious, yes, but don't jump at shadows <deleted>!
  22. yes there is. it's pointless and boring and serves only to show that you lost The Game. what the OP should have said was "I hate myself because I'm unable to adapt to the local conditions because despite being on this earth for three-quarters of a century I've learnt nothing. please halp."
  23. so why is say, Hopf House on Beach Road, wall-to-wall with Thai customers on the weekends?
