  1. this. and they'll kick you out of a pub as soon as look at you because of RSA laws. Responsible Service of A**holes ???? plus everything is so expensive it's beyond a joke. add in the general me first attitude of Aussies/Westerners and it all adds up to a very 'mai sanuk' experience. you want to drink in the Sydney CBD or the Cross? good 'ken luck boys, better take out a second mortgage. and that's just for the bog-standard rubbish like Carlton Draught, New, VB and that 'Reeshes' swill. craft beer? better rob a bank first. you want to take a taxi from CBD to the Cross. if you can find one then it'll probably be twenty bucks. then another hundred to get home to you gang-infested ghetto out in the burbs. I'm looking at you Bankstown! so yeah, give me Thailand with all its 'flaws' over that wasteland any old day of the week.
  2. "you cannot be serious!" - John McEnroe. a wife-beater is a sleeveless, armless undershirt, also known as a singlet or vest. traditionally plain white but now comes in all colours and with (usually) beer logos. example attached. alternatively, it can refer to Stella Artois, a Belgian pilsner. apparently drinking too much of it can put one on the mood to um... you get the drift.
  3. it's still way overvalued. I won't be visiting the UK again until it's 40 pounds to the dollar. if I want a taste of old Blighty I can just catch the bus to Pattaya. the pork sausage might not be up to snuff but the weather's a lot nicer ????
  4. do you have some names for us? I've just been using wire transfer to BBL because it's not that much worse than Wise.
  5. I think LaosLover fancies you mate ????
  6. yeah that's weird isn't it? but maybe this particular exchange booth does special favours for certain clients. an "under the counter" OTC trade LOL.
  7. that's what I was expecting but by the time I got there in mid-1997 it was already quite developed. but still a great little place, especially at Lamai Beach after a tropical storm. we were able to body surf there for about a week afterwards ????
  8. I went back to Samui in 2014 after a long absence and was very disappointed to see how built up it was on the way from Nathorn (sp?) to Chaweng. at Chaweng we took a walk on the beach only to find that somebody had built a concrete monstrosity almost down to the waterline. and then put deck chairs in the sand in front of that. one of those stupid "beach clubs" that the vacuous types seem to enjoy. it was either wade in the shallows to get past or cut through the silly place. they were pumping out annoying doof doof music at 10 am. this was inevitable I guess but I won't be going back in a hurry. I'm glad I got to see it in the late '90s when Soi Green Mango was a muddy, potholed mess ????
  9. no worries. I find it most useful for paying my rent. so much easier than having to re-enter the re-verify the landlord's account details. dunno what I'd do without Google Lens either. the translation function is awesome and there's no chance of me ever learning to read Thai.
  10. thanks for the tip, BBL app lets me go up to 2 mil. not enough to buy a Lambo but still very generous. all sorts of other settings too, dunno why I never bothered to look before now ????
  11. even if you wanted to, will the app let you transfer that much money? New cars cost a couple mil don't they?
  12. I only have experience with Bangkok Bank's Bualuang banking app. it shows the name of the recipient. If it's in Thai I take a screenshot then use Google Lens to translate. If I'm standing next to the recipient I show them the screen and ask them to confirm that it is correct. A test transaction for the minimum amount is a good idea, then if successful add the payee to your favourites so you don't have to redo the above process.
  13. 1. because I CBF trying to find such a FLEX fare 2. because I CBF going through the refund process 3. it's only a few bucks and I'm happy to support a 'disruptor'
  14. I think what he's really trying to say is why do Thai immi make you apply for a re-entry permit instead of just letting you back in without one. he seems to think he should be allowed to come and go as he pleases because...reasons.
  15. in Bangkok? please tell me where because the three branches I've been to want PP and 'residence certificate from embassy' which Aussie mob don't do. and no, I'm not going to hike around the whole of the city looking for El Dorado, got better things to do with my time.
  16. maybe they're making them in Oz and not Thailand. there's a backlog 'back home' because lots of people waited until the last minute to renew their passports. then they all wanted a new passport as soon as the travel restrictions were lifted.
  17. correct, they're abominations from the East. East of Dover that is ????
  18. Cheap Charlies is a desert for Western food based on their subpar English breakfast.
  19. thanks for explaining this 0.9343 FT thingy. I got quite the shock when I picked up my latest bill. I somehow managed to use 638 killer wasps and the FT was B596.08! total was B3,455.43. I can easily afford it but still I'm ashamed to have used that much power just for myself. my Scottish mother will be very, very disappointed ????
