  1. this thread may be of some use to you. a couple of online places are mentioned. I've not used them yet because the super-duper progressive lenses I bought in Australia about 17 years ago are still going stronk. I also use hand soap and water and lightly pat them dry with a tissue.
  2. well best you choof off to the hospital and get some antidepressants then sonny. or do some meditation. Thais seem to still want to wear masks. they're not hurting anybody so what the problem is? ????
  3. I think it's what Thais do that bothers him. Farang smart, Thai stupid, remember? ????
  4. I'm an Aussie, been coming here since mid-1997. lived in Astraya for 50 years so I think I know them reasonably well. FIGJAM is probably the best way to describe most Aussies.
  5. I've been "buzzed" by a couple of farang in big ol' trucks whilst walking along the road. you know those roads where there is no sidewalk and you have no choice but to walk in the street. Thai boys will go around you, farang "hold their line", maintain their speed and expect you to somehow disappear into a concrete wall. also lots of the same treatment from foreigners on motorcycles. mostly around Soi Buakhao in dear old Patts but also quite recently on Thaniya in Bangkok. they get so close that it would be so easy to push them off into the oncoming traffic if one where so inclined. it's like they've got a death wish or something. at any rate, I don't really care what you or the other farang apologists say. I don't trust farangs here full stop. guilty until proven innocent ????
  6. you can believe what you want to believe mate. but like I said, based on my observations of foreign drivers here you're all guilty until proven innocent. especially older dudes in big ol' trucks. you can write another 10,000 word essay if you what but it'll just go straight to tl;dr
  7. nope, your read it wrong. as soon as I read that the driver was Aussie I said I reckon he's gunned it when he saw the gap. and lo and behold, what do I see when I watch the vid? my distrust of foreign drivers comes from personal experience not because I've gone troppo.
  8. I thought you were supposed to learn Kung <deleted> in the temple. and lift heavy stones with your todger ????
  9. that's what I think about where you seem to be from. that old place is a basket case.
  10. just watched the vid. looks like he did the typical Aussie driver manoeuvre and gunned it out of the driveway instead of inching out slowly like most Thais do. I suspected this as soon as I read that the driver was an Aussie. is why I don't trust farang in vehicle over here.
  11. buy a throwaway ticket to Cambodia or Malaysia? dunno if onwardticket(dot)com would be useful given unknown turnaround time for e-visa processing.
  12. dude I already explained mostly how it works. you'll have to DM me for the rest because I'm done talking about fight club.
  13. I know nuthink! PM if you rant want to know the mechanics of the business.
  14. I've been hearing stories like that since I first hit Samui in mid-1997. hard to know if it's an urban myth or legit. but I was told so many different stories by many different people about such things so I'm tending towards the latter.
  15. are you not worried about the pollution whilst out and about on the streets of Bangkok? I went full maskless for the first time the other day but quickly regretted not bringing the blessed thing after about a minute on the back of the motorcycle taxi. think I'll keep one in the back pocket from now on, just in case.
  16. I did my exempt=>non-O=>12 month extension via the famous Maneerat in Pattaya back in December 2021. bank account now required because of new big boss at Jomtien. B3,700 to open the account at the nearest BBL branch around the corner. B3K was for the obligatory insurance policy, B512 was an initial deposit into the bank account, and the remaining B188 to agent I guess. you get to keep the B512 after the other business is sorted out.
  17. I use a super-expensive battery powered Gillette five-blader for shaving. anything else cuts my face to ribbons so I've not much choice. I grew a beard back when I was living in South-Western Sydney because I wanted to blend in with the tribe. I figured I'd have less chance of being randomly beheaded if I had a nice big beard. too bad it was a short salt and pepper beard and not a beautiful long black one like all the habibs ???? I'm retired in Thailand now and am trying to go with the flow because why fight random stuff every step of the way? they want me to wear a mask to go into a bank or a 7-Eleven, I wear a mask. they want to drive the wrong way, I look both ways before crossing the road. I see a Grab driver riding in the sidewalk I smile and move out the way. my Thai brother needs to put food on his table and you know that the customers will be annoyed if he's late because he followed the rules. who am I to deprive him of what little income he gets from that crazy job. so I guess I must be a sheep. baa baa. oh, and a slave to the corporate machine. but I'm (mostly) happy so I don't give a flying fork if anyone thinks less of me as a result ????
  18. pretty sure he was implying that you should already know not to leave your boarding pass on the plane like in the old days. best to tuck it inside your passport so you don't forget it. a couple of reasons that I can think of... 1) the barcode contains sensitive personal information that can possibly be used by "hackers" to scam you etc 2) immigration may ask for it as you experienced 3) airport security could potentially ask for it whilst you're in transit to Immi although I suspect that would only occur in extreme circumstances
  19. me. done it just now. old mate refused meter, qouted 150 baht from Phra Arthit to Patpong 2. Grab wants 170-200 baht inclusive of their redonkulous commission. roi ha sip is a reasonable fare for that distance, plus traffic ain't exactly light at this time of night (20:15). so I said ok mai bpen rai, everybody's happy. being stingy 24/7 ain't good for the soul.
  20. I just escaped from Bankstown. it's not anywhere near as bad as you described...it's worse. good charcoal chicken and kebabs but ????
