I've been reading this and other forums for about 20 years now. In that time I haven't read all that many reports from people claiming they were randomly stopped by the cops and asked to produce their passport. When it does come up it seems to be, as usual, all about location, location, location. Eg. many years ago there were a bunch of reports on here of members getting hassled by the cops in a specific area of Thonglor. Iirc Big Jok might have shut that nonsense down. On the very first page of this thread, RafPinto says he was recently stopped whilst out driving in Pattaya and asked for his passport (DL not good enough). Sounds like he might have got caught up in Pol Maj Gen Suwanlaong's little "crackdown". I simply refuse to believe that all those reports are made up. If that's the case then every word on this forum is a lie. So there's no doubt in my mind that from time to time foreigners will be randomly stopped and asked for their passport, even though I have never been asked myself. I did however show a policeman at an APEC checkpoint a photo of my passport on my phone (I don't have a DL etc), and the swipe card from my condo. I don't really care for trying to be difficult in those types of situations so I had the pic ready as the motosai was pulling up to the checkpoint.

Arrest doesn't mean going to jail until you're bailed out. It means you're detained by the cops, ie not free to leave. Which is what the Pattaya News reports state happened. "Some of the foreigners were unable to present their passports and they were taken to the Pattaya Police Station for questioning."

So what happens when you're older and you get the Old-timers Disease and start losing your marbles? Will you be so cocky then señor?

In one of the pics he's got a big ol' stick in his hand. Most other countries he'd be tasered, shot, or wrestled to the ground with a knee in his back. What did you expect them to do, give him a six-pack of Leo and tell him to carry on his merry way?

I don't think my Lumphini condo allows delivery riders upstairs but even if they did I'd go and meet them myself at the security post at the entrance to the building where they're forced to park up. They seem to dawdle from the bike to the lobby so I like to be out there to uhm, grab mah food as soon as they arrive. Sometimes I'm need to go and chase the rider down because some of them either can't read or can't follow the map and go across the road or next door or just sit in the Soi outside my condo looking lost.

if you know how to find a cancellable ticket that's fully refundable then go for it. assuming you don't go straight to the bars after landing and forget to cancel it. another school of thought says that being asked for onward ticket by airline is a lottery and that if you do get asked you can annoy the check-in clerk and hold up the line by asking to see a supervisor and then sign a waiver indemnifying the airline. me, I couldn't be bothered with all that nonsense so i just use onwardticket(dot)com. it's a real, verifiable booking that auto-cancels after 48 hrs. US$14.

"Boy Cow" is mildly amusing but it might put people off buying the map because it sounds gay. For some reason all the macho men in here are scared of gays and ladyboys. -

I'll laugh if something is funny or witty or dry or sarcastic but "Back Cow" is just lame. Kinda like Chang wife-beaters and the breakfast at Cheap Charlies. -
Maybe you can get away with what he described with a low-level cop who's just trying it on. But I don't reckon any of these braggers have been up close and personal with someone like Pol Maj Gen Suwanlaong and his boys. Same goes for all the other dudes saying that the raids are just to extort money from the clubgoers. They really seem to think that this big boss came all the way down from Region 2 HQ on some special mission just to collect a few hundred baht in backhanders. As they're fond of saying in here, "the mind boggles" ????

But it's not funny. Perhaps if you'd led with "it's for the Orphanage" we might have gone a bit easier on you.
