  1. I avoid those zebra crossings if I can because of the recent incidents. I also assume that drivers won't stop or that a motorbike will come whizzing in between the stopping cars. I was on the back of a motorbike that did exactly that at 2am on Silom Road. The nutjob rider almost plooughed in to a group of young tourist fellas who were crossing on the green man. I noticed they were looking straight ahead and not at the oncoming traffic. Now when crossing the road at a zebra crossing (when forced to) I keep my eyes glued to the oncoming traffic and try my best to read the "body language" of the approaching vehicles. Maybe a quick glance to the left to spot any rogue motosais. Hopefully this continues to work for me as I really don't want to end up like that fella in the video ????
  2. "Turning left onto the Suk eh? Hmm...must have been headed to Nana. Only dodgy farang go to Nana so the BiB were right to stop you and ask for passport (even though that doesn't happen, 50 years blah and). Ergo it's your fault." There @ivorsmallun2 I saved you the trouble ????
  3. You're in Thailand now buddy, they use the Buddhist Era date system, not "some strange number". Show a little respect to your gracious hosts.
  4. Nope. TR gives you 60 days on entry not 90. It's the initial permission to stay period that is used to describe visas, not the total amount of time you can get after extensions. There you have it ????.
  5. There's a certain type of poster in here that has lived in Thailand for a hundred years and has never had a problem at Immigration, never been stopped by a cop and asked for tea money, never been asked for a passport, never been questioned at the airport, never had to pee in a cup. So when others post their own experiences to the contrary the usual response is that you're making it up. Or that it's "hearsay" or "bad reporting by 'useless lazy Thais'". Their words, not mine. Then when they eventually concede that you're not lying they tell you that it was because of the way you were dressed, or berated you for being an "easy mark" because you gave the copper a hundred baht to get out of your face. Or some other ex-SAS hard man type response ????
  6. The raid wasn't led by Pattaya police so I'm really not buying the too-light "brown envelopes" angle. IMHO this is some kind of political play by Pol Maj Gen Suwanlaong to show his superiors that he's the man. OR he's under orders from above to make a big song and dance for a week or two to show after which things will go back to normal.
  7. Yes I know, however it has not been in the news until recently. Covid put quite the dampener on things, remember?
  8. Then it would be =IF((A14+A15)>2000,0,"")
  9. What do you want it to display if the sum of 14 and 15 is less than 2000?
  10. That's because I went for the internet-only package so all I got was the Gigatex fiber modem/router. I usually only watch TV shows and I get my content from other sources, hence my unfamiliarity with boxes and casting and the like. I'm a fan of tech but it can be overwhelming at times. tbh I'm not desperate to watch the WC but I'll have a look at the streaming option anyway, if only to learn something new. Thanks for the tip.
  11. Thanks. After I posted I decided to brave the True website and as you say it requires a "box". I got used to just streaming back home in Australia (Netflix, Amazon and Kayo Sports) so I forgot about those silly boxes. I've got a few options now so hopefully I can get something sorted before the real matches begin ????
  12. Oh now that's just rude! They could have just offered you a one-time WC package for a reasonable price and made some money rather than a big fat zero.
  13. 299 baht just for the duration of the WC, or on an ongoing basis/contract?
  14. Again, can I get an unbuffered UHD/HDR stream using such a box? If so where do I sign up?
  15. This is why the dirty cash is still useful. Too easy for the fantastic plastic to fail. I usually bring a couple grand cash with me just in case. Except when I came in last December to do the agent thing like you. I forgot to go to the ATM at SYD and totally didn't realise it until I landed in BKK with no cold hard cash in mah pocket ????
  16. This has been happening in Thailand for ages mate, why are you surprised? tbh I don't know how they pick their targets. Local police know what's what so when the big boss Pol Maj Gen from Region 2 comes in to "take over" does he tell the locals to cough up a few names for show or does he get his boys to do some actual legwork? Clubs that flaunt closing times are a good target for drug raids. Once you get on the drugs you want to party all night so it makes sense that you'd find more drug takers at such places. As opposed to say, the Christian Science Reading Room. I stopped taking illicit drugs a long time ago and even if I were to start again these Thai clubs don't float my boat. So I have no reason to try and figure out what the best tactic is if you're caught up in a raid. But from what I've picked up over the years you don't have much of a choice, especially in this case where the Regional police big boss is on some kind of holy mission.
  17. I expect you'll be told that you are a troll who is making up stories to increase your post count.
  18. Why are you surprised, it's been in the news for the last week or so.
  19. Google translate...???? "Nopp.Region 2 Join the Pattaya police. Invade to catch a barbarian pub. Violate open bracing during the mocking of the law. Meet hundreds of male and female travelers, 16 purple pee, taken aback, found the driganyan book every morning. Prepare to offer the governor a permanent shut Buri"
  20. "Soi Buchow" ????????????
  21. she was flat out on a stretcher mate so pretty hard for the journo to interrogate the poor dear. I doubt they'll do a follow up unless we pester them to.
  22. Have you looked at their website yet? Goodness me what a disaster. OP should really do some legwork and browse the last 3 pages of this forum. There are a couple of recent-ish posts from Canadiennes who have applied for Tourist Visas. I forget the dates or the titles but I think the posters were CanadianSnowbird, DezLez and dj230.
  23. He's a Scot, frae Leith I believe.
