  1. Meh. This topic was covered a week or so ago. Find something else to moan about mate. Or better yet just haud yer wheesht.
  2. That's my choice now but it can be a bit scary. I find that the Bolt riders are a tad more aggressive than the regular motorcycle taxis. They also turn up with all sorts of random bikes. I took a trip from Lumphini to Central Bang Na, which is quite some distance, and the guy turned up on one of those tiny electric bikes. Even less room than normal on the back for my fat ass! ????

I haven't been to the Museum yet, I don't like the French guy that hangs around outside the front LOL. Apparently the full history is available there, at least according to a YouTube video I watched. That video was quite interesting, it mentioned that IBM and the CIA used to have offices down on Patpong. Bar stool talk says it was a Chinese guy named Fat Fong who bought the land many moons ago and made it what it is now. But for the life of me I don't understand why the family haven't razed it to the ground and put up an office building or condos or something. That's prime real estate isn't it, it's got be worth heaps (billions? I'm not sure about Silom land values). A Thaniya-style revamp would be nice but as you said, seems like the landlord is absent and is happy with the rental income so we're stuck with the dilapidated bars and the stench of stray cats for now ????
  4. Indeed, and if the players were so concerned about it they'd boycott the bloody thing. But the lure of fame and money is simply to enticing to resist.
  5. Don't they use roll cages and four point harnesses here for modded vehicles? Or is it just a couple of flower garlands and hope for the best?
  6. No one's paying the slightest bit of attention to this apart from a few people who read AN and TPN. It will have zero impact on tourist arrivals.

When was that if you can remember? Also why do you think it has such a big impact? Was it because the market attracted civilians? I know I don't like it when the looky-loos turn up, especially young white couples. It's kinda difficult to get handsy with the girls when some judgey backpackers are sitting next to you ????

Patpong feels old and worn out to me now, like an abandoned amusement park. It could really do with a makeover of both the infrastructure and the staff but I doubt that will happen any time soon. Where would the money come from? I don't go there much anymore and probably won't go again until January when a friend is in town. It'll be interesting to see if the night market magically transforms the place into a tourist mecca but I'm not holding my breath.
  9. Have you not seen this thread yet? The events transpired at Ban Laem border checkpoint. Pre-Covid there were one or two stories about people also being refused exit at Aranya/Poi Pet checkpoint.

I made that assertion based on my one and only visit about six months ago. But it was kind of fake anyway, i think they're just doing a job and not really into the actual BDSM thing. I'm not a fetish expert, I just went there because why not? So don't get all technical on me please.

Oh it's still going but the last time I was in there, about 5 months ago, it was no longer a restaurant. It had morphed into a pool hall / staging area for the Kings Castle girls to pretty themselves for the night to come.
  12. Wise is a Visa debit card, not a credit card. I was responding to your question which was something like "why not use your normal bank card". As I already mentioned, normal Aussie bank debit cards are prohibitively expensive for ATM pulls which is the topic. There are only a few options to reduce the fees, ING Orange Everyday being one of them. I note from another post that you might be Canadian. If so then there's no point comparing your card options to Australian ones, it's a totally different universe down there.
  13. I don't know for sure, that's why I was asking if you knew. For all I know "webfact" is a multi-user account that is used to post these "news" articles with the clickbait headlines and childish humour.
  14. if you really want to know then Google "St Regis Bangkok John Shepherd" and prepare to go down the rabbit hole.
  15. what Aussie credit card gives cashbacks and fee-free ATM withdrawals?
  16. you omitted the part about the tourists bring on a "central reservation", according to an eyewitness.
  17. thanks ????. btw it's not my case so I'll tag @ultramarinein case he doesn't see your response.
  18. you're a bit late to the party fella, OP's already got it sorted with no fine. he's also going to sign up to the web-based tm30 portal. you should know better than to post a reply without reading ALL the replies, there's really no excuse.
  19. I need to go out to drink coffee. Even better if the café has a nice view. Do you know of any places in Bangkok that have a range of coffee from different countries? I was spoiled when I was younger, the local shopping mall had a place called Coffee Emporium that stocked coffee from all around the world. They'd happily make you a shot of whatever you chose for an extra 50 cents. The place was started by Macedonians then taken over by Lebanese so they had decent coffee, not the swill that Aussies like ????
  20. How would the consulate know where you are located? Are they doing stuff like logging IP addresses or browser fingerprinting?
