  1. "According to sources the biggest chunk of the tax collection would come from the more than 160,000 hotel rooms that are there in Bangkok." Personally I would go for property taxation, especially in wealthy areas and for new constructions. I had a condo in BKK in the centre of the city and paid just 300 baht BMA tax a year. Why always stinging the visitors, make the populace pay their share.
  2. But only for an incentive of 25 million dollars. Hardly honourable.
  3. Its the world against you inside your head is it not?
  4. I am unbiased, thats the point. I agree with your second sentence but thats our opinion, the speaker of the words (Trump) has a different opinion. He is entitled to that opinion, just as you are entitled to your opinion that I am biased.
  5. I agree its sad that a country considers a qualified teacher who is teaching their upcoming generations a less than generous wage. 10 years is a long time with no increase, I know what I would do.
  6. I don't really see anything wrong in it as a comment if he truly believes there was massive corruption (I know he is as mad as a bag of frogs but pity the deranged and lock them up don't dwell on their rantings) I hate Trumpy, probably more than anyone, but when I read it, I don't see him explicitly calling for the suspension of the constitution..... “Do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” And the media representing him as saying that EXPLICITLY are as bad as he is. The same with all that bull that Elon Musk is putting out - thats also a gross over-reaction by both Elon and the media that wants to use the information for its own ends. Trump was right when he was ranting that the media are corrupt (sadly he scored another own goal by his courting of FOX), its a fact we should all be aware of. (light touch flame and run)
  7. I was just in the UK for a few weeks staying with my son and when answering the house phone he would just slam the phone down without replaying the caller. I asked why .... scam calls ..... at least 3 a day. Its an epidemic (possibly a pandemic).
  8. I think Revolut as well a number of other UK small internet banks use wise to facilitate overseas transfers, I know mine does. You are right the article should have mentioned it.
  9. It just keeps getting more surreal.
  10. On twitter its says she recorded the conservation and thats how she could recite it, is this true or a fib?
  11. Reading the other "paper" they did not sack him at all, he got away stock free as the big wigs did not agree with the panel.
  12. Yes, BKP has a good article on this, this morning.
  13. My usual on this is I think I won't need something and a few months later, suddenly I need it for something and regret letting it go.
  14. What this article does not tell you is that they are not prosecuting Chainarong at all! They have let him off because he had a previously good record and to allow him to keep his his pension after the big hat stepped in. I assume he kept stum on whoever instructed him to tamper with evidence and was rewarded accordingly. This country continues to flabbergast me at times. Its all so blatant.
  15. They put two plane loads of bookings onto one plane (one plane was cancelled so they added them to the another flight) so its the fault of the airline and airlines ground staff. Additionally when the plane re-landed in Phuket, the airport then closed the runway for a pre-approved maintenance of the runway which Vietjet had already been informed of. So everybody on the flight was stranded in the airport terminal overnight. Apparently they have been offered a 500 baht voucher. Amateurish at best.
  16. The weather is so great here most of us non-Thais cannot sleep without the aid of a machine (AC) for 10 months of the year.
  17. Political elites and their families. How can anything ever change for the good whilst they keep the power game to themselves (includes all parties in most countries). I don't know what will be the bigger emotion for me, the glee of seeing the junta boys gone or the sadness of seeing the Thaksin fill my pockets clan return.
  18. I agree, one of the reasons In stopped living here full time.
  19. Very correct, it appreciated against virtually every currency in the world.
  20. Thanks for the correction. It does make one think, the word "was" that is. Makes me think the only reason that the UK PM(s) ihave denied a further Scottish independence referenda is that it would open the door to a UK wide push for another Brexit referenda. As I live in the UK, I have noticed the tide has swung on brexit and that and you hear so many people now voicing their loud opinion of being duped by politicians on Brexit and how they would not have voted for it if they had known how hard life would become without our major trading partner's goodwill and the inability of our Gov to control immigration.
  21. and on the issue of brexit, it should be remembered that whilst 60% of Scots voted remain, 40% voted for leave, so the majority vote was based only on a 10% swing of voters (i.e. a 10% change of heart would have resulted in 50/50). My point? Referenda should be legally required to have a higher majority than 50/50 (say 70/30) to be considered the true voice of the public (voters and non-voters alike)
  22. I respect Scotland's right to a choice and find the prospect of a de-unified UK interesting (and horrifying at the same time considering the lies pro-brexit UK politicians [yes in all the nations] used in the Brexit referendum). As the SNP is using this as a core issue of their voting platform maybe they should just rename themselves to the Scottish Independence Party (or similar) as a "nationalist" is not necessarily all about independence. If the SIP (rather than the SNP) got a substantial majority of the vote who could argue with self determination.
  23. You HOPE the answer is no but who can say, nobody can predict the future.
  24. If you love them then let them go.
  25. I am in my 80s. I am surprised some (younger) here are talking about sexual activity, such urges disappeared a long time ago for me. Makes life much simpler and much cheaper.
